Cardboard case mod comes ready to ship
Calling that thing pictured above a "case mod" is a near travesty, but we're at a loss for words outside of that. This box is almost devoid of specifications entirely, but judging by the artwork on the "chassis," it's powered by a totally rare Intel Pentium 3 CPU, hums along on Ubuntu and features a curiously placed fan, audio in / out, VGA output, a power supply and lots of fasteners tape. Truth be told, we're not even certain this concoction is capable of processing anything, but at least it's primed for a shipping label should the creator opt to cut his / her losses.

why is this news. someone taped computer parts to a carboard box. Sorry to seem mean, but honestly this is what i am supposed to read about on atech site? Great day in tech today, kid discovers duct tape and cardboard, computer ensues...
It takes only one spark to ignite that box...
Does it come with a fire extinguisher?
You'd be surprised at how hard it is to light cardboard on fire, if you don't tear it up first.
hahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahah
Slow day for news I see
Enjoy your ban.
I'll wait till the chinese make a knockoff of this.
Dunno how they're gonna pack the lead into it though...
Tell me-- What is the difference between this hideous thing and the plethora of case mods you guys slap up on here and praise up the wazoo?
I'm talking about all the stupid case mods that are little more than the same guts pictured above, but shoved into an old Star Wars toy, musical instrument, or other piece of garage sale bric-a-brac. Why is it that a cardboard box is a stupid case mod, but a molded piece of plastic that bears a likeness to some pop-culture icon is a wonderful case mod?
To me, they're all the same worthless junk. A bunch of no-name PC parts shoved inside something that wasn't meant to hold PC parts. Certainly the box looks a little junkier this time around, but you can't seriously say that shoving these same parts into an AT-AT toy or drum set or old radio is somehow more creative. It's still just putting parts into a box.
Laugh at this guy if you want (I did) but please remember to laugh at the next dweeb who sticks a Nintendo Wii into a toaster, guitar, or model of the Millennium Falcon, too.
Should have filled it with those foam peanuts!
Fans + Foam peanuts doesn't mix, well it may blend?
Fans + Foam peanuts don't mix... Perhaps it may blend?*
Sorry...
it will be funny if the fan blows up the peanuts...
I'd buy it.
Still smaller than the PS3
Zing!
I think it's pretty cool. You can write notes on it, like when a certain component was replaced, added, etc. He just needs to upgrade to a "TV packing" box.
My first thought was how much like a BOMB that would seem when it went through the mail system.. can you imagine seeing that go through an xray?
I am totally jealous of this!
Step 1: Cut a hole in the box
Step 2: Put your motherboard in the box
Step 3: Don't have her open the box
And that's the way you do it .....
I'll have to see if i have enough spare parts to make my own...;)
who would want this?
Will it play Doom though?
Why won't anybody answer this question?
WILL IT PLAY DOOM?
Give it a rest. Fuck.
But will it play Doom?
Go friken die Alex...
A goatse icon and a "slow news day" comment.
Biggest. Ban. Ever.
@Chebwa
Indeed... Please report his comment, I'm sure most of you have. Slow moderators perhaps, not news... ;)
Looking for a cheap PC to play Doom. You guys think this will do it?
Fire Hazard in the making.
This case mod is almost cool as the one made out of cooling fans.
Also, would it be possible to make reporting a comment also hide the avatar? Don't really feel like seeing some guy spread his asshole again. (jimmy)
I've reported it three times, I really don't get this place... I mean some people get really offended by this stuff, I don't personally (I just don't like them getting away with it)...
That thing is pretty sweet. pretty sweet for 1995.
yeah...I did this like 7 years ago...my Cardboard box computer, I also used a "pull chain" light switch to start it.
What does he use for a keyboard? Chicklets?
I'm holding out for the super delux duct tape silver platinum edition
All I can say is..... that's just sad!!!!
go play in traffic
I'd pay good money to see someone try to take that through airport security.
this was meant as a reply to Alex in regards to his doom question, for some reason the reply thingy didn't work.
eh whatever...
Yeah, that's gonna work great until the electromagnetic waves PCs generally emit completely kill all your other electronics.
Line it with metal next time, buddy.
A worthy P-P-P-Powerbook!! ripoff.
Actually I've been saving our Last Refrigerator box for something.... Can you Say "SUPER COMPUTER".
Is this the new Green PC made from aircraft grade cardboard?
hive a new meaning to "linux box"
Awesome! Reminds me of a cardboard computer case I did a couple years ago:

Loved that thing. I kinda wish I still had it around...
I built a 150Mhz (!) 486 in a shoebox 12 years ago. this guy just wants to steal my limelight.
Don't breathe this!
