HP readying new Pavilion tx1400 series convertible tablets
It looks like that batch of laptops HP trotted out yesterday wasn't all it had in store, as the folks at Notebook Italia are now reporting that the company is set to update its Pavilion tx1300 line of convertible tablet PCs with all new tx1400 series models. What's more, it seems that at least one retailer (linked below) already has one of those tablets (the tx1410us) up for pre-order, with it setting you back $1,200. For that, you'll get the same 12.1-inch touch screen as before, along with a 2.2GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64 processor, Geforce Go 6150 graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and built-in 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth, all in a 4.5 pound package. No word on any of the other models in the line just yet, but according to Notebook Italia, this one is apparently only the first of more to come.

Engadget READ MY MIND.
Circuit City has a sale on the TX (today, Fri and Sat only) for $999.
Turion with 2GB Ram and 250GB HDD.
Figerprint scanner + Webcam + Lightscribe DVDRW.
I have to replace my DEAD Apple ibook G3.
Office Depot has had the tx1310 for months now at that price.
So essentially the same as my TX1138 but with 802.11n and a 250GB HDD? :( Would be nice if they did a digitizer version or something, the differences between each line seem a bit weak
the previous model was horrible, the thing was hot to the touch (i mean really hot) the touchscreen sucked, the lcd was super super grainy, and it is worthless as a tablet.
returned it 1 day after i bought it.
Yep, can't argue with that...
Does the new model improve the screen grainyness and glare?
how come those specs match my hp tx1320?
Why would anyone buy the new dell when this is so much cheaper?
I had actually two of these. An early one a year ago and one recent one a couple months ago. Both were returned to retailer & manufacturer.
Both were slow (AMD & slow hard drive), had a horrible & grainy screen, touch screen wasn't as it should be [ I could not use tablet handwriting as I had to press way too hard for comfort and for it to recognize stylus pressure ], short battery life, glossy screen with bad glare, bunch of crap ware pre-installed.
By any stretch, it is a terrible move to keep updating this series with that same old horrible screen ... I would advise others to seriously check out the screen before buying. It gave me headaches, it is that grainy.
Don't forget the digitizer is passive. And it looks like the digitizer is still passive on the updated version also.
You can't make a tablet pc with a passive digitizer. All the others (lenovo, gateway, dell) have active digitizers.
It's honestly a shame that HP, with one of the more popular and different looking tablets out there, hasn't switched from a passive digitizer to an active digitizer.
I keep hoping they come out with another hybrid or slate like my TC1100.
Personally I would gladly pay extra for a tx series with a C2D (for cooler operation and longer battery life relative to the AMD Turions) and an active digitizer.
Agreed, those and the horrible touchpad were the reasons why I didn't buy a tx1000
does anyone know where I can play with one of these PC's in a store?
Nothing can touch the Lenovo tablets... except *maybe* an Apple tablet if they come out with one :D
I've seen and purchased a TX series at Sam's Club. Can also be seen at places like OfficeMax & Staples - though selection may vary per store & region. Not sure about Circuit City & Best Buy.
This thing has been out for quite sometime. I plan to get it from Circuit City ^_^
Wow. That's pretty cool. I've been looking for a new laptop, and this thing looks like it fits the bill quite nicely.
