President Clinton: iPhone user
Hate it or love it, there's no denying the iPhone is hot amongst the A-list -- even if they can't seem to hold it the right way -- and it doesn't get more A-list than former President Bill Clinton, who told TUAW reader B. Ioffe that he was an iPhone user while signing his device at a recent rally. Bill said he got his from El Steve himself, which is interesting -- wonder if he asked board member Al Gore first?

bobartig @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:04AM
Steve and Bill Clinton are friends. Bill has used one of Steve's houses for vacationing and such in the past. They're on terms like that.
David Clark @ Dec 21st 2007 6:26PM
Why would someone want Bill Clinton written on their iPhone?
Adoniteking @ Dec 21st 2007 7:28PM
let me introduce you to a term "eBaY!"
Twitchy @ Dec 22nd 2007 4:54AM
That 'B' in Bill reads more like 'Rill Clinton'.
Argot @ Dec 22nd 2007 6:43AM
Looks like "Bin Laden"?

Now I know who I will vote for ;)

Just another reason not to buy an iPhone.

Cue unnecessary political debate in 3... 2... 1...
Oh wait... /smacks forehead

Haha. You got low ranked. Now you're as famous as Bill Clinton and almost as famous as his wife.

This confirms Fox News theory; Apple for lily livered liberals and Windows for upstanding Republicans, thats at least thats how they characterized it.
MacVicta @ Dec 21st 2007 7:04PM
Karl Rove also uses an iPhone.

...Seriously?
I have seen lots of Macs on FNC's press rooms, in particular during Happening Now (Weekdays, 11AM East)
And I think it was dumb to sign an iPhone, since it can be "cleaned off" very easily. I'd rather get a signed T-shirt or a photo
packetsniffer @ Dec 21st 2007 9:06PM
But Bill Gates is a lily livered liberal too. Maybe it only applies to the consumers.
It's kind of like how Volvo is the car of the liberal politician and a Prius is the car of the liberal plebeian.
Thrillcekr @ Dec 22nd 2007 6:58AM
Being criticized by Fox News is the biggest compliment a person can receive. Just hope Jobs doesn't start hanging with Dubya and O'Reilly. I'd hate to have to throw my G5 in the dumpster.
Wwhat @ Dec 22nd 2007 4:08PM
gates a liberal? haha, only in america

Oh forget Clinton, I'm still waiting on my iPhone to be signed by El Jobso himself :p
justin @ Dec 21st 2007 6:45PM
...and then after he signed, he stained B. loffe's blue dress.

Like you needed a reason not to buy it, Zombie Fanboy. Now do a dance number to the tune of XP's startup music.

Aw...bummer, and I thought the Bill's (Gates and Clinton) were pretty good pals...lol.
roole @ Dec 21st 2007 10:20PM
"Bills" not "Bill's" for heaven' sake.... (I recommend that, for starters, you read "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves").
roole @ Dec 21st 2007 10:22PM
Of course, I meant "heaven's" not "heaven'" .........

Reason #4523 not to vote for a Clinton.
Dumbya @ Dec 23rd 2007 11:53AM
Reason #1 TO vote for a Clinton:
Look what a Clinton did to fix the mess the country was in last time a Bush was in Office.
Although Jr. certainly has done far more damage than Papa did - a lot more work to be done for the next pres.
Clintons: Cleaning up Bush messes since 1992

I wonder is came unlock from O'Steve or he has to signup two years.

A Politician an A-Lister? I don't think so......... Boy is our sensibility out of whack when we think that a Politician is someone to look up to...
Eric @ Dec 21st 2007 10:39PM
Wait a minute - why would anyone believe anything President Clinton said? I mean, major issues aside, he is the greatest panderer-to-whomever-is-standing-in-front-of-him ever. Would he not have said that of a Blackberry? A Treo? A StarTac?
js @ Dec 21st 2007 10:54PM
This wouldn't be news if the term "iPhone" is replaced by "Zune".
Rick @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:43AM
Wait. He autographed his phone to himself?? WTF.
Jeremy @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:29AM
Oh God, ol Bill's got an iphone too
liin @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:58AM
Guess ol Bill still prefer voice audio over push mail for immediate communication.
Carbonize @ Dec 22nd 2007 2:55AM
Thing is whilst this makes him an iPhone user it's only because he was given it. If he had actually made the decision to get one for himself then I would truely consider him an iPhone user. As it is he was given the iPhone as a gift and him saying he is a user could just mean he's played with it a few times not that he uses it as his main mobile phone.
Sean O @ Dec 23rd 2007 1:22PM
Dude, what the hell are you talking about? The guy is probably given every single phone there is for free. Not to mention he's rich and could afford any phone he wants.
If the iPhone is the one he uses, then he's an iPhone user.
Carbonize @ Dec 23rd 2007 1:29PM
Errr that's what I just said. If he had bought the iPhone himself. If he had gone out and made the decision to own an iPhone then I'd say he was an iPhone user. But he was given the iPhone and, like most people in the world, has decided to make use of the freebie. I'm suer he will stop using it as soon as the next free phone comes along. Novelty value has a huge part to play in this scenario. You hype up your product and then send it to big names and you bet they will use it, or at least claim they do. Famous people want to appear 'hip' and 'with it'.
Chris.L @ Dec 23rd 2007 6:11PM
I hope thats not his real signature on the back...I can't even make out what that says...
But this is nothing new, Bush has admitted that he owns one and Canadian Prime Minister, Haper admitted yesterday that he owns one, but he also said that he's not upto date with music, his ipod is filled with 70s and 80s rock.
tekdroid @ Dec 22nd 2007 9:10AM
Bill did not have sexual relations with his iPhone. The touching was never inappropriate.
McYoda @ Dec 22nd 2007 1:20PM
Being a former president. I don't think he can use the Iphone unless is secured and approved by the NSA.
whatsdamattau @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:44PM
Isn't he Bill "Private Citizen" Clinton now? The only difference between he and us is that he gets $250,000 a year for sitting around eating McDonalds and private security. I'm sure he can use whatever phone he pleases now that he's not quarterbacking wars, the economy, dates in the Oval Office, and secret jogs to some fast food outlet.
Joshua Fan @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:24PM
It's probably that more Democrats prefer Apple products than Republicans.
biturbomunkie @ Dec 22nd 2007 6:21PM
he sure got some big hands, lewinsky must have gotten a mouthful =O...

iPhone is simply the best smartphone. Our Exchange server added IMAP solving the last hurdle keeping me out of getting one. Am just tired of the suckiness of Windows Mobile and my Treo -third one this year. WinMo Treo was a significant downgrade from PALM OS, but Palm's push mail solution, Goodlink, put the phone into a coma which was not acceptable in my line of work. With my current Treo, I have to reboot every few days as it gets slow or will freeze up. It's my third one this year -Sprint says that's what we're suppose to do -reboot the computer every few days to keep it fresh. Kind of like what I used to do with my Window's laptops.
In fact, went back to MacBook after half a decade of serial Vaio laptops -supposedly best designed Windows laptops -making movies with a Sony Digital Camcorder was so painful, gave up. Took one look at a Vaio running Vista, and decided that was it. MacBook Pro now runs both MacOS and Windows (WinXP) when I have to and runs it better than the Dells in my office. If you think of all the wasted time rebooting and upgrading to keep your Dells running, you could get a Mac and keep yourself happy.
Can't wait for my iPhone. Happy to be a fanboy.
