SAFA rolls out another forgettable PMP
Sure, SAFA's latest portable media player is impressively small (and thin), and at least it looks like it was engineered in more than five or six minutes, but it's still nothing to phone home over. The all-black (or red, or white) player features a 1.8-inch LCD and plays nice with MP3, WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC file formats, and apparently, it also comes with a few built-in games in case the jams get stale. Moreover, there's a voice recorder, image viewer and a rechargeable Li-ion good for up to eight hours of playback, but we still don't see this thing bringing us too much joy after dropping between ?89,000 ($95) and ?109,000 ($116), depending on capacity.

Hey, someone's got to make low end products right? Right???
dUc0N @ Dec 25th 2007 7:23AM
You mean, other than Compaq?
AMFS @ Dec 25th 2007 6:20AM
It's not that, it's the price of it. $95 for 1GB and $116 for 2GB. Compare that to an iPod Nano, which for a 4GB is only $149, and I can guarantee that it's a better product. $30 more for twice the capacity with better performance, no brainer.
Oh and yes, I just compared it to a Nano because I have no idea what the prices on the comparable Zune is. That's just an FYI to the fan boys.

Safa makes good solid players but they're a low volume manufacturer so that means higher prices.
Please do not compare to iPod.

So you're saying I shouldn't compare different brands PMPs because some are made by larger companies than others? If Safa's players were so good and solid, then they would sell more of them. If they sold a decent amount of them, they'd obviously have to meet the demand and increase supply, which would then no longer make them a "low volume manufacturer." But what do I know about how the economy works, who really understands supply and demand anyway, or products that cost way more than what they're worth.

Merry Crapness, SAFA. This is a good substitute for a lump of coal.
