Buy a 1080p BRAVIA and Sony Australia will toss in a PS3 for free
It looks like we're going to have to postpone our move to South Korea momentarily as we jet over to Australia and clean 'em out of PS3s. Sony Australia is giving away a free 40GB PS3 with every 1080p TV purchase in the XBR, X or W BRAVIA series of LCDs. The 40-inch W series starts at AU$2,999, while the 40GB PS3 retails for $699 kangaroo bucks, so it really is a hefty discount. Who's to say if this is a desperate move by Sony to sell more TVs, PS3s, PS3 games or Blu-ray discs, but whatever the reason we're not complaining. The offer lasts until January 28th.

SonyRewards.com offers a similar deal in the US. Happy Holidays everyone!
LegendZ28 @ Dec 26th 2007 8:14PM
Anyone know how I can get this deal without applying for a Sony credit card?
Rob @ Dec 26th 2007 11:14AM
Very nice. I think Circuit City just had some similar sale a week or so ago. Buy a particular $1800 tv, get a PS3 along with it too. I can't remember if it was a Sony tv though. But hey, any incentives work. The HD war is heating up more and more every day. Now Sony is taking a page from Toshiba's book and concentrating on moving more hardware too instead of just the software. It may be time for me to go Purple.
AKBlade13 @ Dec 26th 2007 11:21AM
It was actually Beust buy. For $2000 you could get a PS3 a 46" Sony LCD screen, and home theater installation.
Needless to say, after my TV broke I got myself one of thoes bundles.

Temple @ Dec 26th 2007 12:23PM
Circuit City also had a similar deal.
waiownsyou @ Dec 26th 2007 11:26AM
I remember the launch of the PS3... they used to give away the TV with the purchase of a PS3 -_-
Ed @ Dec 26th 2007 6:42PM
I, also remember the launch of the PS3. AU$699 says this bundle doesn't come with an HDMI cable.
Backlin @ Dec 26th 2007 11:38AM
Man, this is a great incentive. I've actually been wanting one of the newer PS3s. Is the freezing problem ironed out? I've seen a lot of demo units freeze up while being played. Plus, Bravia's one of the best TVs on the market. Freakin' sweet!
Noshino @ Dec 26th 2007 4:52PM
surprisingly, there have been almost no reportings of such freezings on console OTHER than the demo units, they were just part of the early complaints from anti-Sony people...
MMaster23 @ Dec 26th 2007 11:41AM
us Dutchies have been having this for months now...
Yanna Galiulina @ Dec 26th 2007 7:53PM
It would be a great deal if amazon.com had this deal, otherwise it's pretty pointless because if you buy this tv anywhere else you will be probably paying extra $500 or more for it. The same amount of money you would have spent on the PS3 if you bought it yourself.
kjb434 @ Dec 26th 2007 12:06PM
What does this say about the PS3 when it has to be given away?
Brodie @ Dec 26th 2007 12:12PM
Actually, I feel just the opposite and think what does this say about the Sony Bravias that they have to give away a PS3 with it...
Now where's the deal that you get an Xbox 360 elite with the purchase of a 61" Samsung LED DLP? That I would be interested in...
kjb434 @ Dec 26th 2007 12:19PM
True.
The problem with Sony TV's and electronics are that the are overpriced compared to what else is out there. Sony goes with proprietary technology which ups their costs and product price.
Sony blamed some of their losses last year on Wal-Mart and other discount retailers for selling HD TV at a low price. That's the beauty of competition.
Homeboy @ Dec 26th 2007 2:02PM
Can you blame them?
The Wii is selling like coke.
People are loving the green cush coming from MS.
The PS3 on the other hand isn't selling like blue magic. So obviously Sony have to cut themselves short by diluting their profits.
Zelatio @ Dec 26th 2007 12:09PM
My brohter bought a 46" Sharp Aquos LCD for $2400 about 6 months ago and it came with a 60GB PS3 for free. This is a good deal but the deal he got was even better.
NewEgg FTW.
Matt-NL @ Dec 26th 2007 12:17PM
Yep, here in the Netherlands they actually extended this deal...
Only difference is that here you get the older 60gb version (the 600 euro one), with motorstorm, f1 championship, spider man 3 and the extra wireless controller... makes a nice deal with the tv...
Alex Padilla @ Dec 26th 2007 12:26PM
I'd do this if I had the money. An HDTV would look real nice in my dorm room.
But alas, I am stuck with a 13 Sanyo CRT and a PS1 w/ FF7 (not a bad combo, if I do say so myself)

where's the edit button!?
BigD145 @ Dec 26th 2007 12:48PM
The PS3 doesn't sell so they just give away their overflowing stock.
mattclarkie @ Dec 26th 2007 1:06PM
I just bought a Bravia TV in the UK and all I got was a 5yr Warranty, but to get that I had to pay £300 more than I could get it online. So I saved like £90.
Dyganth @ Dec 26th 2007 1:22PM
I picked up on a similar deal from newegg in May, got a Samsung LCD and newegg threw in a free 80GB PS3, though I still don't own any Blu-Ray DVDs or any actual PS3 game discs.
Kamalot @ Dec 26th 2007 2:10PM
I have had a PS3 for over a year, and still don't own any bluray movies or games other than the Taladega Nights that came with the system (awful movie by the way). I've rented some games for the PS3, but keep going back to my 360 and Wii cause the exclusives are so much better.
lothar @ Dec 26th 2007 2:35PM
Thats one way to get the PS3 in peoples hands sadly the majority of the people will just be using them as BluRay players. Also lots of consumers dont know that the 40G models are not Backwards Compatible with PS2.
I had to explain that one to my Brother in Law yesterday, he just got a new 46" Samsung and was talking about getting a PS3 for the BluRay player that and his PS2 bit the dust.
allaina @ Dec 26th 2007 3:34PM
at least a dead ps2 is inexpensive to replace, y'know?
your tv or ps3 goes, and you're out a ton of money.
but it's still only 129 to replace a ps2, and you can even go silver if you feel like it now.
not that i don't think they needed to keep backward compatibility, but i don't think that leaving it out is what's hurting the sales.
pquistgard @ Dec 26th 2007 3:29PM
Please don't call it Kangaroo bucks. Please.
allaina @ Dec 26th 2007 3:35PM
you think wallaby bucks, or marsupial bucks is better?
or maybe russell crowe bucks?
Andrew Harrison @ Dec 26th 2007 3:55PM
...or perhaps "Australian Dollars"
Unregistered @ Dec 26th 2007 8:41PM
Koala Bucks sound cute too, I think.
However, Australian Dollars it is :)
pquistgard @ Dec 26th 2007 9:04PM
Yeah, Australian Dollars is just fine thank you.
Alex R @ Dec 26th 2007 5:17PM
Shame the PS3 games only go up to 480p resolution...
Zac Altman @ Dec 26th 2007 6:12PM
You are just trying to make someone angry arent you.
ITS 1080P!!! not 480P!!!!
Alex @ Dec 27th 2007 9:20AM
@ Zac Altman
No, Seriously! The back of PS3 Blu-Ray boxes says that they only have 480p when the Blu-Ray Movies have 480p/780p/1080i/1080p written on the bottom.
So HA!
Deluxe @ Dec 26th 2007 6:39PM
Please, don't feed the troll.
... Trying to resist... so... hard..
Zac Altman @ Dec 26th 2007 6:11PM
HD-DVD doesnt exist in Australia. Well it may, but it is hard to find. Blu Ray is the clear winner here. It is an effort to find anything HD-DVD! (at least in sydney)
so thats why i bought myself a PS3 :D
Unregistered @ Dec 26th 2007 8:17PM
They had this bundle in Singapore some time ago too.
ginjaninja @ Dec 26th 2007 8:41PM
we did this deal but the bad thing is that the PS3 only comes via redemption, which sucks. I guess I'll be waiting for ages before I can actually play it comes, Sony says in less than 26 days, so hopefully it will still be summer holidays when it gets here. Still, it's a pretty good deal IMHO.
IndiaTech @ Dec 27th 2007 2:18AM
No Thanks... I am happy with my chintendo Vii...
DAZA @ Dec 27th 2007 7:10AM
Don't mean to bring negativity to their promotion, but as a salesman who worked 12hrs today on our post-Christmas sale (biggest day of the year), I can't tell you how many people didn't want the PS3. Most people who were buying the TV didn't care less that it came with a PS3 and asked me to reduce the price of the TV instead (which I can't obviously, it's a Sony promotion). The sad fact is most customers didn't realise the PS3 could play back Blu-ray. Good effort from Sony, but I think what Samsung & LG are doing promotion wise is far more lucrative; a free 19" or 26" bonus LCD or a free home-theatre in-a-box package and a holiday.
eric f. @ Dec 27th 2007 11:20AM
Well, I hope that as a good salesman you informed them of the BluRay functionality.
This deal is a pretty great incentive. I wish mine had been free.
animeGhost @ Dec 27th 2007 10:12AM
no no it was circuit city (i work there) we had the sony kdl40s2020 for $1899 and get a free ps3... we ran that special about a month ago... we ran a similar special last week with mitsubishi tv's and a free ps3
JoeyJoeJoeJohnson @ Dec 29th 2007 9:44AM
This whole promotion by Sony is strategic. It's not that PS3's are being outsold by Wii and that they're doing well, neither is it due to Bravia's not performing well either. Over the next year the battle in the gaming and movie industry will be big - and selling software and Blu-Ray dvd's will be a huge cash earner for Sony. By offering this promotion they are drawing consumers into purchasing these extra bits to create extra revenue.
Samsung and LG can promote an extra TV, home theatre system etc, as a bonus to their lcd tv purchase but their long term ability to generate extra cash from this is nil. Great that they giving these things away - but how is it generating more money for their company over the next year? five years?
As for customers not wanting a PS3 with their Bravia - it begs the question as to why are they looking at Full HD TV's in the first place if they don't know what it's all about.
Sony will be big this year with lcd's, ps3's and Blue Ray - just wait and see.
nosrednAneB @ Dec 28th 2007 4:21AM
Well there's no way I'd get a PS3 unless they were giving them away.
I'd just have to justify buying a very expensive TV at a full, far too expensive, retail cost.
You've gotta remember us Aussies get charged way too much for our stuff. I mean US$2619 for a 40-inch LCD TV? Come on!
