Maybe we just turn a bit sentimental during the holiday season, but damn it, we'll admit to getting a little choked up over reader Claude M's well-planned,
uber-geeky proposal to his girlfriend -- even if his method of choice did happen to employ the totally overexposed
iPhone. Being the romantic fellow that he is, Claude spent what must have been numerous hours producing a video proposal in the style of those ubiquitous commercials -- as you can see after the break -- and then screened it for his sweetheart (probably on his or her you-know-what) while they were strolling around the area where they'd first met in college. We'd like to congratulate the happy couple -- she said yes, duh -- and encourage them to race over to our
Christmas contest post, where they have decent odds of scoring a pair of round trip tickets for the honeymoon.

lol @ the coverflow spelling... too bad most girls today would just think they're albums and think that the phone is functioning normally when you get a call from, "Will you marry me?"
jilie @ Dec 26th 2007 8:30PM
i'd reply "NO dear troll!" to this proposal
asdfghjkl @ Dec 26th 2007 9:48AM
Wasn't the Zune marriage proposal first? Hmmm I don't remember this site putting that one up. Or is it because it's an iphone and anything with an iphone is sooooooooooooooooooooooo cool.
aaron @ Dec 26th 2007 1:00PM
yep zune 2 was first....
SteveMB @ Dec 26th 2007 3:04PM
Please excuse the ignorant Apple fanboys while they low rank you. It doesn't matter if the Zune was first, the iPhone is God!!!
Andrew Campbell @ Dec 26th 2007 6:21PM
It's absolutely pathetic how you can read and watch someone's clever proposal, and only be able to focus on how Microsoft isn't the center of attention. It's time to grow up and realize the world isn't black and white anymore. And until you do that, you'll just be another close-minded fool.
Jared @ Dec 26th 2007 9:56AM
Dammit - maybe I still have too much Christmas cheer in me, but I actually teared up for that one. My God, I'm turning into a total fruit...
Mike @ Dec 26th 2007 10:00AM
Hey, we're in the same boat, cause I got a little misty too. That was nice and congratulations to the new couple to be.

nah, after she relizes what a total geek he is. She will say iCan't
GTMac @ Dec 26th 2007 10:40AM
"...the totally overexposed iPhone."
In all good conscience, shouldn't Engadget acknowledge their own complicity when they make a comment like this?
abadtooth @ Dec 26th 2007 10:51AM
OMGOSH thats SOO STUPID!!!!
I mean how iSTUPID do you have to be to use a stupid little i?!?!?!
kevjohn @ Dec 26th 2007 11:04AM
On the 13th day of Christmas this geek dude gave to me
An iPhone proposal and a partridge in a pear tree
Jonathan Bergeron @ Dec 26th 2007 11:22AM
That didn't warm my cynical heart. I think that's stupid. What did he do for the engagement ring, send her wedding ring tone?
Mile @ Dec 26th 2007 11:22AM
Saying Please at the end of the proposal is lame.
J Doss @ Dec 27th 2007 12:08PM

How idiotic.
eurokid @ Dec 26th 2007 12:35PM
I guess I'm too cynical.
Good idea.
Execution could've been better and more original.
Will @ Dec 26th 2007 1:31PM
Doris. Lol.
Aaron Bindi @ Dec 26th 2007 2:05PM
awww, apple finally got into every part of life! yay!
Mark @ Dec 26th 2007 2:14PM
hmm too bad he just copied the guy that proposed with a zune.
Zak @ Dec 26th 2007 3:46PM
Yeah, it's also too bad that there are people out there still proposing on one knee, ring in hand. They're just copying everybody who's done that before them for the last few hundred years. What a bunch of unoriginal bastards, if a proposal isn't 100% unique they shouldn't be proposing at all, because honestly they're worthless as human beings and no self respecting woman would marry them anyway.
I'm sure that's what the iPhone guy's girlfriend thought, and I'm sure she rejected him outright, and she probably even said "somebody did that with a Zune already you moron."
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what happened. Stupid Apple, it's all their fault anyway.
Mark @ Dec 27th 2007 1:20PM
ya... I'm sorry that doesn't even make sense. My point wasn't that the guy shouldn't have proposed like that but just that it wasn't news worthy and really has no place on engadget, the same way engadget doesn't post it when people are "still proposing on one knee, ring in hand." What WAS newsworthy was the original person who proposed using a zune, since that was really original. Also, that guy gave his fiance the zune and it had "Will you marry me?" engraved on the back via zune originals.
Paul @ Dec 26th 2007 2:18PM
How about a proposal that was actually creative ?

iPhone is amazing!
Nik Schubert @ Dec 26th 2007 9:28PM
Zomg that was by a wide margin the cutest thing i have ever seen, as an apple fanboy i have to say even though it was the iPhone, that was still the most awesome thing he could have ever done!
I love love, and i love to love love, and that was love, in an iPhone.
iLoveit
Bill @ Dec 26th 2007 9:54PM

Awww!! As sick as I feel today, that surely brought a smile and warm fuzzy feeling to my day!
Mo-Mo @ Dec 28th 2007 2:36PM
Wow. I can't believe all of you. Instead of being happy at this couples good fortune in finding each other you say how horrible his method of asking her was or how lame the iphone is. None of that matters! What matters is that those two people were lucky enough to find each other, fall in love and accept each others quirks and find them endearing enough to want to pledge to spend the rest of their lives with them. Love is amazing no matter what form it takes and how its expressed. If you don't like the iphone, dont buy one. If you think his proposal was 'lame' well then its a good thing he didnt propose to you. Anyone who hopes they dont last doesnt have a heart.
Peace.Love.Happiness
Mo-Mo

I thought your post was very nice... and I agree with you whole-heartedly. Everyone has the choice to see the beauty in this situation - or they can choose to pick it apart. I for one, see the beauty in God's ever unfolding plan for all of us.
msr @ Dec 28th 2007 2:39PM
if i was to get that i reply sorry wrong number . no class it should be done with respect not a show or some nonsence
Tiler Cassidy @ Dec 28th 2007 2:48PM
AWWW I love it! Its so perfect! Stop being so cynical, everyone! Its a proposal with a semi-unique method. Unless you perfer to watch a video with someone proposing how everyone else does it... I'm sure that would be just so interesting. This is adorable!!
edna duvall @ Dec 28th 2007 2:48PM
She better marry him, Geeks are ones who make the money.
tnipnad @ Dec 28th 2007 3:03PM
Dude, be sure you dial the right number. Otherwise you may accidently propose to Rosie O'Donnel. Yikes!
Sam @ Dec 28th 2007 3:17PM
Here I though my husbands "so we gonna get married or what?" was romantic.
BellaBellaB3 @ Dec 28th 2007 3:33PM
Ha ha ha, that was funny and cute. If you would only marry someone who had no originality nor imagination, think of what a dull marriage you would have. If you would only marry someone over a proposal that you think would get your friends' approval and make you look good, you only think of yourself anyway, so you don't deserve the guy.
Butt @ Dec 28th 2007 4:02PM
But will they blend -- that is the question.
Sheena @ Dec 28th 2007 6:36PM
Are you kidding? He couldn't even ask her in person? How ridiculous! Well, when they figure out how women can have babies by cell phone, we won't even have to entertain this nonsense! She should have said no!!!
Kimx33 @ Dec 28th 2007 6:42PM
It's thoughtful... but it could have been a little more personal. Maybe that's just me...
