Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 compact shooter pre-announced for CES
Sony's got a new basic camera in the works to flesh out its line of compacts. The Cyber-shot DSC-S730 brings 7.2 megapixels of resolution, a 2.4-inch LCD, ISO 1250 and 3x zoom. The high-ish ISO is ostensibly there to fight camera shake, but we'd rather Sony sprang for some image stabilization -- we get the basic specs, but why not toss in some extra silicon to sweeten the package? As it stands, we'll need a bit more info before we can really differentiate this new camera from Sony's DSC-S700 from last year, but we'll be finding out soon enough when Sony debuts the S730 in January. So far only a Europe launch is confirmed.

It's funny how manufacturers just keep throwing the same cameras over and over again without any kind of improvement, just a different name. Hopefully some day people will stop buying those and force them to release better models.
There's some exciting new technology flying around in that field. You may thank the patent system for their not being implemented, depending on who you ask.
I had a S700 with a 2G lowS-MStick ,cost RMB1500($200)this year.Compare with some pasttime camera like T10,I think now this one is more cheaper and practical than ever before!
Anyone who has the S700 is probably cursing Sony right about now.
I've used one and I know how crappy the picture quality is (not to mention the recycle time). Without a Carl Ziess lens, I doubt whether this one is gonna be any better.
Same can be said with all low-end point-and-shoots; I'm none to happy with my Canon A570 in terms of picture quality. Also, Carl-Zeiss lenses are way overrated for these cheap compacts; while optics are a crucial component, the technology involved in making miniature lenses aren't great enough that you would see any difference between Carl Zeiss of Sony lenses (which are now designed by Sony's late-Minolta division)
I wish the S730 had a Zeiss lens (like on the DSC-S600), instead of a Sony optical lens.
I just bought a low-end Panasonic, 3X zoom, 7 megapixel, anti-shake, $99 on amazon. Great pics, takes movies too. Why pay more?
