TG's LLUON Crystal reminds us that mini PCs can be sexy, too
Sure, manufacturers are stuffing all sorts of great components into inconceivably small cases these days, but all that cramming has still left plenty of room for ugly of late. TG has been honing its skinny desktop form factor for a few years now, and seems to have it down to a science with the latest TG LLUON Crystal. Specs are only so-so, running up to a Core 2 Duo T7200 processor at 2GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 500GB HDD, DVD burner, GeForce 8400 GS graphics and a bit of 802.11g, and the 1,399,000 won pricetag (about $1,490 US) is hardly a steal for this amount of power, but we're just glad that ugly spell is over -- and unsurprised it took a South Korean company to do the trick.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'll be honest, with sub 15" laptops running at a similar price, why would someone pick this over something else? Obviously were not looking for a powerhouse in such a machine, and if I can get a keyboard and screen in the package as well, why not? Is there a situation where that might be detrimental? Do these generally produce less heat than their laptop counterparts? Though, if that were a concern, they would have gone with an integrated gpu. I dunno, I just don't see the market for it.

500 GB HDD in a laptop? where?
silverblackvoid @ Dec 27th 2007 1:12PM
you dont see the market for it. the manufacturers probably do.
mike @ Dec 27th 2007 10:33AM
Yep. if you put it in the fridge and eat it after wards..
james @ Dec 27th 2007 10:44AM
As long as it has that "Intel Inside" sticker, it's not sexy.
Ethyriel @ Dec 27th 2007 9:14PM
Luckily, we have developed the technologies required for sticker removal. It's only a matter of time before it becomes a reality.
aoeu00 @ Dec 27th 2007 10:45AM
Exactly. Companies are TOTALLY missing the ball on these very mini PCs. We know the technology is and HAS been here. The problem is getting the darn price point to well below $500. If they can make AND sell laptops for $400 or less which includes an LCD, they should definitely be able to do this for a booksized PC.

Who forgot mini PC's were sexy?
Matthew Hilario @ Dec 27th 2007 12:04PM

I hope it will make its way to USA
bishara @ Dec 27th 2007 12:14PM
sexy rendering; sure
lose the intel sticker in an idealized space of 3d design; never
silverblackvoid @ Dec 27th 2007 1:18PM
well the intel sticker is obligatory if it has a intel processor.
Saad R, @ Dec 27th 2007 12:17PM
Sexy! Like seriously, SEXY! :)

It is designed to sit next to your home theater receiver, so you can hook it to your HDTV. It lacks the requisite TV in/outputs, so as usual, it looks like it belongs and really doesn't. Much like today's programmer.

"so-so"?! my $1000 laptop has 1gb ram, 1.83 processor, and integrated grapahics! and it's 15.4 inch!
Christian @ Dec 27th 2007 3:08PM
I agree that this mini pc is beautifully design and very minimalist. It's not for hardcore people but it sure can handle some good software with its specs. kinda looking like a black wii from far away.

Add HDMI and I FINALLY have a media center that isn't also my laptop. Not that my laptop has HDMI, but I'm not spending that for a media center that still uses s-video.
