A-Data whips up a 64GB SSD
We've seen a number of large-capacity SSDs, but 64GB seems like the current sweet spot, and A-Data's aiming to fill it out with a quartet of new 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch PATA and SATA drives. That's pretty much it on the outside -- it is just a big flash drive, after all -- but don't worry, there's plenty of sexy once you actually get an SSD inside your machine.

my wallet hurts.

How much is it? Because most SSDs are costing around $300 or more. Though its not a lot you have to admit that 64 GBs is a deal since Samsung's SSD are a rip offs.

64gb probably runs to 750

I have a "Solid State" inside my pocket when I watch Rosario Dawson movies.

But, you still use an old floppy most of the time. :-)

Zing!

lol.. the word "inside" links to an article with the title "better, faster, stronger" =P

A-Data is garbage. I don't trust them. I bought a 1GB USB drive a couple years ago, and it started giving me Write-Protected errors after about a month of use.
BigD145 @ Dec 28th 2007 2:37PM
I've had more trouble with SanDisk that A-Data. I've had A-Data SD cards in my DS and my current cell phone for 1-2 years with no trouble.
computer.dude.28 @ Dec 28th 2007 2:45PM
I've had trouble with SanDisk too! I bought a 1GB SanDisk SD card a couple years ago and it was corrupt out of the box! I'm also trying to fix my friend's Sansa, it has some kind of firmware problem and won't boot up. I've also had a 2GB SanDisk MicroSD in my phone since last June but it works fine.

Different companies have been announcing and announcing and announcing, but I still can't just drop one into my laptop. Quit announcing and start shipping.

64GB Zune?? I so want to try this!
Junior @ Dec 28th 2007 4:09PM
I think they just came out with an 80 GB Zune
Sam Zebian @ Dec 28th 2007 4:13PM
Yeah, I know, I have an 80GB, that's the one I'm thinking of modding!! So what if I lose 16GB, I won't need it, I'm only using about 47GB right now. It'll give me better battery, faster syncing and it will be less fragile!
jivetrky @ Dec 28th 2007 3:33PM
No talk of Read/Write speeds and no talk of price. Why do I care?
Veriander @ Dec 28th 2007 3:48PM
You got that right. There's a huge pent up demand for SSDs that can replace laptop hard drives. I have a tablet with a 1.8" 32gb drive that I want to replace with a 64gb SSD. I'm willing to pay the early-adapter toll if I can get one.
Ricardo @ Dec 28th 2007 4:02PM
Hope this is cheaper than the $750 Dell is charging for SSD on the XPS M1330.
AdamK @ Dec 28th 2007 7:09PM
I'm copying this from a different thread because I don't think I'm going to get any hits over on that link. **I get that SSDs save a lot of energy since they don't have moving parts, but does anyone know where I can find numbers on energy savings for similar size drive + similar data transfer + similar data transfer rate? Looking for a good side-by-side comparison with as few variables as possible impacting the energy consumption. Thanks.**
Anyone?
Sid @ Dec 29th 2007 11:45AM
Reduce costs. Now, that's when we're gonna have more SSD acceptance.
