iPhone firmware 1.1.3 leaked?
Looks like there may have been a possible leak of the next version of Apple's iPhone firmware, 1.1.3. According to Gear Live, it can now handle SMS to multiple recipients, the springboard (home screen) supports reordered icons and pagination (as well as web bookmarks), and Google maps gets hybrid view and that nifty cell-based location system. If this is all Steve plans to announce iPhone-wise at Macworld next month, we think there will be more than a few disappointed iPhone users out there. Then again, home screen pagination would kind of imply an SDK to make use of all those slots, so maybe the real news is under the hood.

to be honest...all I care about in the new firmware...to include a new baseband uprgade!
Point 6# Flash in Safari
Apple would lose money as you would then be able to watch Full episodes of tv on the network's (ABC,NBC,CBS) website. All major networks offer a large selection of shows free in Flash on their site. This would cut into Apple's download profits from iTunes. Sorry, no flash anytime soon.
I think it's simpler than that. There is no Flash that will work well enough on an ARM processor on OS X. Flash for other mobile phones is pretty bad and is a major battery drain and Flash for Mac OS X needs to be optimized too. Until Adobe can get on the ball there is no reason for Apple to even consider it. But if there were such a Flash package ready for the iPod Touch/iPhone platform I don't think Apple would use it for the reasons you mentioned above. :-)
Well the main reason we want flash is not for watching shows as bittorrent+transcoding is already perfect for that but the problem is there are many sites that use a flash interface and you can use those without it...
@Ayle
So wouldn't "those sites" be the real problem? I'm all for flash on the iPhone, but web sites that don't offer a non-flash version as an option are broken by design. Some people don't install flash because it brings a ton of annoying ads.
all they would have to do is add an iphone detector and it would disallow play of the full episodes from those websites. There's no reason it should all together be thrown out. People aren't even asking for flash for the reason of watching full show episodes.
Well if it doesn't come with a fix for the volume issues and MMS (no, i dont' want to use email to send images) then what freaking good is it? These issues have been discussed by iphone users since they came out.
Volume is infinitely more important than some hack kneed GPS system. I can't hear my phone ring when driving down the road!!!! Get on the ball Apple!
The only volume issues I have for the phone ring is that I choose to pick a softer tone. The upside is that it doesn't disturb as much if I forget to set it to vibrate in a meeting or church or other place.... the downside is that I can't hear it as well in the other room when playing loud music.
So, I'm not sure what the problem you are having is, but my iPhone sounds plenty loud when I play normal ringtones.
same her sounds fine to me on rings and while talking.

That image is a fake. The google locater has a smaller blue circle of where it thinks you are based on towers.
Until they get MS DirectPush on iPhone, it is dead to me...
Such a good looking device that has almost NO USE AT ALL to those of us that are in the vast class of "corporate users". But that in 1.1.3 and I will have one in 24 hours.
The iPhone is not a corporate device - go buy a Blackberry if you want intsant communication. The iPhone is a video and MP3 player, basic email device, and of course, a freaking phone. The email and basic internet have saved my roast many times, on account of the convenience of being anyhwere with wifi (in Canada, they charge out the arse for data so I don't subscribe to EDGE) and being able to check my email or look at one that's already come in!
Mark, the iPhone isn't a business phone and Microsoft doesn't provide support for non-Microsoft products. Go complain to Microsoft about not making their protocols more open so that people can write software to coexist with their systems without paying ridiculous fees. I don't complain to Mozilla because Thunderbird doesn't connect to Exchange (not natively anyway). That's Microsoft's doing!
Yeah....now if the iPhone allowed you to send Picture texts and copy and paste something from the web to an e-mail that would be great!!
It's going to be a revlutionary update.
Can't wait to get an iphone!
i think that those that want the iPhone experience but hate that ht has no true smartphone features should look no further than to HTC's latest offerings. The HTC Touch Cruise is touch screen based, full GPS, and has WM6 Pro on it (matches the Tilt in ROM/RAM) so it'll fit all your business oriented needs. The iPhone I think is for more of a casual user so they shouldn't be compared until maybe in Feb. with the release of SDKs they implement more true smartphone features into it. If speed is an issue then just wait until they release a 3G iPhone (later 2008?). I myself have been on the fence of getting either an iPhone or a Tilt but this Touch Cruise is sounding mighty nice too.
JK, I have to disagree with your assessment that the iPhone is for a "casual user." I've had a number of great smartphones, including the Sony Ericsson P800 and P910i, but I've never come close to the 75-100 MB of data I'm using each month with my iPhone. The browsing experience on the iPhone makes it ideal for heavy duty use; I manage shared To Do lists with Remember the Milk, read my RSS feeds with Newsgator, and Fandango has a great iPhone interface.
I miss exactly one application from my P910i -- a password manager that let me synchronize a secure password database with my desktop. But what I've gotten from the iPhone more than outweighs that inconvenience.
iPhones can't do multiple SMS?! You iPhoners have been living in the freaking stone age!
I want friggin' copy/paste! Why can't I use this thing like a PDA????????
Lurker here, I waited with anticipation for a new Iphone to replace (yes,I know it's ancient)Treo 600 with tmobile...soo disappointed with the AT&T only connection...cost, need more smartphone apps...all the comments above on both sides of the fence...my Treo keeps chugging along serving my needs...I am excited by the HTC Touch Cruise and my hopes for Tmobile 3G...I think the answer to all the gripes will be in 2008...hold out for the USA phones to catch up with Europe etc...Happy New Year y'all...
fuck that, give me god damn A2DP already.
Anyone know if/when the iPhone will sync to my Outlook calendar directly using the same mechanism it uses to sync my Outlook email (vs iTunes)?
I agree. I just Googled my name to find it - but annoying nonetheless!
Screw this triangulation thing. 99.9 percent of the time, unless I'm REALLY drunk, I KNOW where I am. Give me a damned eBook reader. Give me something practical. Apple has a LOT of catching up to do and they need to start NOW.
Let's see:
I own an iPhone and have never been a Mac user before, so, I think I can't be considered a Mac boy, it was even hard to me to start using Itunes (the sound is better than Windows Media)... Second, the only reason why I bought an iPhone is because the iPod+Mobilephone facility, I hate to carry with me "4 different gadgets" (watch + mp3 player + mobile phone + Palm or something else).
Why iPhone and not another mobile with MP3 player?, just because the iPhone includes the best ever inbuilt MP3 player of any other mobile phone not only because the interface (I'm not talking about the cover flow, which I consider useless), also because the quality of the sound (very important for me) and finally I bought an iPhone because if I want to have an iPod (I never had one before but I knew the quality of the sound and easy-use interface) like that I have to pay £199 for the ipod touch, so.. finally I made my numbers and I paid £199 for the iPod touch plus £70 for the phone, I don't know you guys, but for me that is value. Cheers.
1.1.3 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD TODAY JANUARY 17! ! ! !
