Just yesterday
we saw some pics of what was being touted as an iPhone running the as-yet-unannounced 1.1.3 firmware version, and now we've got word of some video proof from a pretty reliable source. Nate True, all-around modder and creator of the
Walluminate light-up wallet, has a short vid up on his cre.ations.net site that claims to depict that handy home page icon rearrangement feature -- you know, the one that
suggests an SDK to make use of all the new slots. Go on, check out the short clip after the break.
[Thanks,
Marcus S.]

Any word about the ipod touch getting this too?
Andrew @ Dec 30th 2007 6:34PM
I'd like to know too.
giantenemycrab @ Dec 30th 2007 11:22AM
Looks cool, but for one of the main additions coming in the next update, kinda worthless... Atleast until February and when the official 3rd party apps come out.
Neonkoala @ Dec 30th 2007 12:12PM
At least with there *should* come a new Secpack which means unlocking.
EArroyo @ Dec 30th 2007 11:32AM
Looks like Apple is prepping things for February. Making room for all the new apps that are forth coming.

It will 200% be completely locked down to the point of being useless, just like the PS3's linux.
Fresh @ Dec 30th 2007 10:02PM
This just looks like someone showing off some app on their hacked phone. Look in the top left and you see his name Nate up there. I'm sure they don't give you that option in the new firmware.
Rk @ Dec 30th 2007 11:49AM
Good spot. Makes me a bit cynical, especially the instructions screen that is shown. It seems a bit awkwardly worded.
caubeck @ Dec 30th 2007 11:51AM
While that's a good observation, it happens that the kind of person who'd be messing around with new firmware and making videos is probably one who has also jailbroken his iPhone.
L @ Dec 30th 2007 11:54AM
I'm not that sure - the new version would have to be jailbroken first, right?
RchGrav @ Dec 30th 2007 12:01PM
Nope, actually, if you change the Carrier Icon using Eric Sadun's "Make it Mine" application.. This is not a fake video... when I do a FULL RESTORE on my phone it retains the carrier image do to the fact the iTunes syncs it back in. I was surprised myself when I saw the carrier image survive the Full Restore....
If anything it actually ADDS credibility....
I have no doubt this is 100% legit. If you can't believe Nate, who can you believe???
Cheers!
Senor_Tom @ Dec 30th 2007 12:02PM
yeah, doesnt seem right having a custom network name considering apple dont even let you change network. Im thinkin its an app.
KarlW @ Dec 30th 2007 12:03PM
I noticed that as well - either this new version has already been jailbroken (scene sharing or jailbreak not being fixed), or it's a fake (possibly a springboard replacement).
1.1.2 was jailbroken by downgrading to 1.1.1 and installing OktoPrep, which somehow prepared the iPhone to be jailbroken after updating to 1.1.2. Maybe OktoPrep still works when upgrading to 1.1.3, or a similar package has been created internally.
nick @ Dec 30th 2007 12:04PM
yeah but i'm pretty sure that's just replacing an image file. I don't think that necessarily implies jailbroken.
http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=308
then again, I don't actually have an iphone so I'm not sure.
Khris @ Dec 30th 2007 12:24PM
Did all of you morons commenting that this HAS to be a fake because of the carrier label not bother to read RchGrav's comment?
If any of you actually had experience with an iPhone, you'd know that (as RchGrav said) if you use "Make It Mine" to change the Carrier name, the change will persist even after a firmware update/restore.
Philster @ Dec 30th 2007 7:01PM
SOO hard to tell if this is fake or real. I don't think the carrier logo spills any beans, since the "MakeItMine" image swap would likely survive an firmware upgrade. But I agree with Rk that the test in the on-screen instructions shown in other pics doesn't sound like it was written by Apple. Of course there's still plenty of time between now and Feb to change that.
But seriously. If this IS the update, I don't see any reason to hurry up and possibly lose my jailbreak goodies.
??!!
Phil @ Dec 30th 2007 12:01PM
taken from another technology website (id better not say the name here :) ):
"Other effects
Like previous firmware upgrades, whatever is in the user partition remains unchanged. Only the Apple-owned part is affected by 1.1.3. So for those of you who claim that this is a fake because it says "Nate" in the network instead of "AT&T," that's the reason. He changed the network name in 1.1.2 using a program by Erica Sadun, of TUAW, called Make It Mine."
Sam Stone @ Dec 30th 2007 12:02PM
I thought you also had to JailBrake your iPod/iPhone to make the screen slide to the left....
It smells fishy....
Too fishy....
Khris @ Dec 30th 2007 12:24PM
That's one of the new features you twat!
Sam Stone @ Dec 30th 2007 1:56PM
Ok Ok....why the stressed out reply!?
Just calmly say that I'm wrong
I do not appreciate being called a "twat".
mark @ Jan 2nd 2008 4:22PM
then don't act like one.
Adam K @ Dec 30th 2007 12:07PM
Looks like the icons have Parkinson's disease.
Senor_Tom @ Dec 30th 2007 12:10PM
yeah, they are shaking, and not just when he is dragging the icons around. Maybe another "cool" "new" feature of the iphone. Or again, could be jailbroken.
Andrew Cooper @ Dec 30th 2007 12:47PM
The shaking is likely to indicate the icons are in "modify" mode. Once the changes are saved I bet the shake goes away. You'd otherwise be constantly moving things around when trying to slide the screen or select item... I hate that about my Igoogle page. Crap always tries to move around if I am not careful while clicking.
Adam @ Dec 30th 2007 2:40PM
it says when you're done modifying to press the home button. That's why they were still shaking.
Evilgiggle @ Dec 30th 2007 12:53PM
I really dont care if it's an official new bit from apple or if its a homebrew app, that looks like one hell of an improvement over the current icon-moving methods
Alex @ Dec 30th 2007 10:23PM
However much I want this to be true, you can tell this it's bogus. After he drops the "calc" app the first time he immediately picks it up again. There was no delay time like the first time. When he picks up the "notes" app. The "notes" even picked up differently than the calc. This will probably be a new thing with Apple but someone created a hack for it first
DarkRail @ Dec 30th 2007 1:40PM
If nothing else, that wiggling is super-cute. It's like a screen full of puppies excited to go for a walk.
wickedpheonix @ Dec 30th 2007 2:17PM
what would be nice is if they could do this on video and then right afterwards go to the about screen and show 1.1.3 as the firmware... until then I'm rather predisposed to stuff like this being fake (AFAIK you can't fake the firmware number).
Karl @ Dec 30th 2007 3:16PM
Would Apple really use the same page-style for Springboard that Summerboard now uses? I mean, sure I can see using the sliding to the side for more "pages" of icons, but even with the little white dots to indicate (as it looks like in this video)?
I don't know, I want to believe!
TheMarioKarters @ Dec 30th 2007 3:20PM
Well, the little white dots are also used on the weather page (if you have more than one weather location set), so it's Summerboard that copied Apple. It's actually Apple's design.
Believe.
Miles @ Dec 30th 2007 5:20PM
Steve Jobs is amazing!
Newsom02 @ Dec 30th 2007 6:14PM
Do you think that he is personally creating everything for Apple? Give him credit but that borders on worship.
ben @ Dec 30th 2007 5:57PM
Add M$ Exchange Push Feature and their sales will increase 20% from what I've gathered from what I'm looking for before I buy as well as others!!!
Digit @ Dec 30th 2007 8:30PM
actually, the dots at the bottom are a part of Apple's springboard application originally. The original Springboard also had the capabilities of using more pages, they were just locked off / not available in the final release. Summerboard just copies springboard and disables the lock on the programming.
