Nokia N95 8GB listed on Nokia USA: $780
What's that we see? The Nokia N95 8GB listed on the Nokia US retail site? Okay, calm down, it's not the US-specific version (read: it uses 2100MHz WCDMA, i.e. European 3G), but you'll still have a 2.8-inch mammoth screen, A-GPS, a five megapixel camera, and the rest of the goodies that maybe, just maybe, you'll be willing to fork out $780 for, even knowing that a US version HAS to be right around the corner.

*drools* *cries because he can't afford it*
A nerds tool. Like a fat iPhone mixed with a PSP and some kind of a mimi-PC. Just too much smacked into too little. It's a powerful tool I guess but not really clean and sleek. This is the Noliak Brick.
Noliak? What the hell. I meant Nokia :P
you are quite right, there might be too many functions already, to the point where it does not make any sense. Althought that did not prevent about 5 million people from getting it in 9 months. :-) But the size is pocketable and you would need much larger pockets for all the devices it contains :)

But unlike the iPhone (oh look it's shiny!), this is actually useful.
You're calling THIS an iPhone knock-off........... YOU DON'T EVEN TOUCH THE SCREEN!!!!
So buttons, a GOOD camera, actual GPS, 3G in Europe, and then all the features of the iPhone, and $780 WITHOUT CONTRACT, it may be a nerds tool, but paying the price of the iPhone because it makes you look cool is just stupid
p.s This is a tech blog, we are ALL nerds, don't pretend you're cooler than the rest of us
I don't know I found the N95 very slow and too big. I also don't get along well with keypads since multi-touch, but what do I know, I owned an LG Prada! :P
So RK you are using multitouch in prada ? :-0
and you think physical key pad is bad ? :-0 :-0
dont make fun of yourself ! prada can even compare with iPhone , let alone N95
"dont make fun of yourself ! prada can even compare with iPhone , let alone N95"
But it sure paved the way for a shitload of ripoffs from everyone from Apple to Samsung. The Prada was the first and even the Prada had an ancestor, the Neonode. So the iPhone isn't really THAT amazing. Sure it got multi touch, so what?
What the hell is with these prices, am I not getting it.
I spent 300$ on my latest one (would never pay any more) and I can't understand why companies are asking ppl to pay these ridiculous prices.
Are there than many fools in this world?
Was that silly question?
Yes, yes it was.
top of range phone = £200ish
point and shoot camera = £70ish
mid range in car gps system = £100ish
8gb mp3/mp4 player = £100ish
£470 total for seperate devices... to me for one device that does all this the price isn't overpriced!
You've gotten far too used to the "Free with 2 year contract" business model.
Why would I buy a high end $3000 gaming computer with all the bells and whistles when I can go to wal-mart and get a computer for $200?
Its the same thing here. You want nice things, you're going to have to pay for it.
Well idea with this phone that it's all in one device. Does it all, but dosent master any of them. Of course this camera isnt enough if you really are taking pictures, but it's the best cell phone camera currently in market with N82(that has xenon) and i do have N95 8GB...cant go below 5mpx anymore with my next phone ;)
I own one and love it.
This thing looks... way too big - I mean my current PPC6700 feels like a damn brick in my pocket; can't even imagine thing thing... Also the 5mp camera - WHY. When in hell will these people realize that its all about the optics and as long as you have crappy little plastic "lenses" it doesn't matter how much times you blow up a picture. - I mean its like grabbing a webcam, taking a 640x480 pic w/ it- scaling it up few times and claiming that its equivalent to a 10MB DSLR... :(
The N95 sports a Carl-Zeiss (what you see on Sony Cybershot cameras) glass lens, not plastic.
I always wanted one of these..not for the camera, but for the built in GPS and WiFi..that is some sexiness.
Mars, whatever - you know what I'm talking about...
I know what you mean, but the N95 and the upper-scale Sony-Ericsson phones take AWESOME pictures.. it's definitely not going to replace a DSLR soon anytime, but for a phone it takes beautiful shots.
I still carry my P&S around and will continue to, but let's give credit where it's due.. the phone takes some pretty decent pictures =)
@ Michael LaFramboise
The N95's 5 megapixel camera comes with a Carl Zeiss lens, autofocus, and LED flash.
This is extremely old news...the phone has been on their site for weeks now. Wake me when the NAM version is out -
I was hoping someone would point out how old this piece of news is! I played with one myself almost two months ago at the NYC Nokia Store. You don't have to pay $780 - you can find it at online retailers for about $100 less. Still expensive though.
This is the GOD of all mobile, hand held, smart and sexy phones. :')
sexy?
Thanks to iPhone for the push for these sweet touch-screen phones... Imagine what we can have in a year or two!
N95 came out BEFORE the iPhone did... no ?
@holycow
Meh, didn't check anything...
The camera quality on the N95 is very, very good. Pictures taken in sunlight will compare with most dedicated cameras to the untrained eye (normal people) It's just a bit slow to autofocus in the dark and the flash is about 30% of what you would want, though it atually usually gives better pictures at dark parties because you don't get white faces of close up people. The image is nearer reality TBH.
By the way I paid 180 quid with contract for it, an avaerage camera is that much in the UK so it was a no-brainer.
My N95 has internet radio (works great), Genesis/SNES/Gameboy emulators (perfect with sound), Tomtom, Opera browser, VOIP , Google Maps, MGMAPS, Viewranger (Full UK survey maps), Mobilreader, Shazam online song recogniser (works unbelievably well) Symella (bittorrent).Pedometer using the built in accelerometer. Remote desktop (RDH). Full 3D gaming and last but not least
LIGHTSABRE!!!!
Hehe, yeah got Lightsabre too... always makes people laugh :-D.
Now the positive aspect of the 8GB version is that Nokia actually bothered to update the plastic from "incredibly cheap feeling" to "just sorta flimsy", so it feels a whole lot better. The build is still not up to the price though, which becomes painfully apparent once you compare it to current E-series devices.
Seriously you guys are lucky. I've got the European version of the N95 8GB and it costs €729,00 overhere.. that's $1072,94!
If I waited and got it in the States I only would have paid €529,97.
But I'm not sad.. it's the best money I spend in years. It's a great device. For example the iPhone doesn't have a thing on the N95 8GB.
GPS/HSDPA/UMTS + quad band/Wifi/5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens.. need I go on?
Be sure to check these out..

"For example the iPhone doesn't have a thing on the N95 8GB."
Uh, how about a huge multi-touch screen? Or even a full keyboard? Missing out on the main interface to the device seems like quite a flaw to me.
I'll also take the iPhone with an extra $400 cash.
Seriously, the N95 is really cool and props to Nokia for making it (especially the updated version), but to overlook the lack of a touchscreen OR keyboard and it's still DOUBLE the price just makes you look as bad as the iPhone fanboys who are also very annoying.
You could buy two PS3s for that price! Is that overpriced or what?
As Ballmer said...
"Har Har Har, 600 dollars?? are you kidding me?? Thats the most freakin' expensive phone out there, who will buy it?! "My Q cost me only a hundred bucks!"
Now of course iPhones are selling like hotcakes and Ballmer is throwing chairs *again*
Lets see who buys a 780 dollar phones :)
*DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS*
DEVELOPERS!
Well your getting N95 8GB for free in uk wint contract ;) Thought i'm not buying phones via contracts it's not that hard when over 70% of phones are sold with out contracts here in Sweden...thank god
Well seems 4 millions sold world wide + 1 million (original) N95 where sold only in uk. Dunno how N95 8gb has done. I really cant see that price to bee that high just compare it with other 5mpx camera phones like k850(that was horrible flop)and that price aint bad at all.
This phone is not a brick as I have used one and although there are some "battery life issues" these can be corrected by adjusting the backlight and power settings.
This phone is original and is clearly the Phone of 2007 where the iPhone is style over substance and does not give us the consumer anything original.
Below you'll see links to the Nokia N95 8GB and Apple iPhone where you'll see that the iPhone is bigger and heavier than the Nokia N95 8GB!

Those who carefully watched reviews of this phone when it came out ages ago know it wasn't as great as everyone expected. It's rather slow (as most all smartphones) and does nothing truly well. Just wait for the next phone.
those who watched carefully know that the new versions have a lot more memory and thus are a lot faster.
$780 and no 3G!? It's exemplary of Nokia to come up with half-baked product and get high $$$ from drooling spec-crazy nerds.
Where I come from the Iphone costs 1000€ without contract and doesnt have 3G..
I don't where you come from. But Nokia is peddling this thing for US market, where iPhone is $299 - $399 plus contract, which you'd have to get anyway with any cellphone.
In other words excatly what apple is doing in europe... if you get my point, every company has its home market.
Am I the only one that thinks this thing is ugly as sin?
No you're not. I was thinking the same thing.....
I submit it is a **completely** subjective thing, guys, but it is truly unattractive looking.
