Pink Centro coming to Sprint early next year?
With a red Centro already out the door, it's certainly possible (even likely) that Palm has a pink one all lined up to follow suit, but we'll still have to treat this latest pic with the usual grain of salt until we hear something official from the company itself. If SprintUsers forum member TheRobin is to be believed, however, the image above is in fact the real pink Centro, which has been rumored to be on track for a release on Sprint sometime in January of February. If that is indeed the case, we should be able to put all these rumors to rest soon enough.

Uh, pardon me.. but this is news?
bdawg @ Dec 31st 2007 12:40PM
Y'all wrote January of February not January or February...Smooth guys.
Neebs @ Dec 31st 2007 3:57PM
Though it can be deceiving, web bloggers are people too!
aaron @ Dec 31st 2007 12:43PM
I bought one of these at Walgreens for my 5yr old daughter to play with. It flashes lights and makes sounds.
JerkyChew @ Dec 31st 2007 12:43PM
This has been all but confirmed internally at Sprint for a couple months now.
ethan @ Dec 31st 2007 8:45PM
Exactly. I got the merch kit for it awhile back with a pink centro picture. This is nothing new engadget. What's wrong? Slow day? I mean, REALLY slow day?
Don't tell me: The Upstage now comes in red, too! What? Wow.
paragraph @ Dec 31st 2007 12:49PM
Just what i needed to push me on the Centro Bandwagon, thanks Palm!
-_-
Seriously, I didn't think it was possible, but this makes the Centro more Suck.
Khris @ Dec 31st 2007 12:51PM
Me fail english? That unpossible!
Khris @ Dec 31st 2007 12:51PM
Palm just doesn't get it. Releasing the same phone in different colors isn't going to save them from eventual collapse.
They need INNOVATION, not some asshat trying out his new Crayola box on the production line.
thethirdmoose @ Dec 31st 2007 12:53PM
WiMax.
Bb @ Dec 31st 2007 1:00PM
I'm still holding out for the Hello Kitty Centro release.
striggity @ Dec 31st 2007 1:03PM
LOL!!
That phone is phugly.
DT @ Dec 31st 2007 1:07PM
People! Buy PALM stock right now! This is the device that is going to rescue Palm!
John P @ Dec 31st 2007 1:18PM
You all act like other companies don't release new colors to drive interest. Nintendo with the DS? Sony with the PS3? Different color blackberries? Seriously, Palm obviously isn't going to release some brand new iPhone killer a few months after the Centro launched. Though I'm sure they are working on something new and different (i hope), I imagine that this is simply a way to get those waverers over to their side. Colors have a strange effect on people.
schagg311 @ Dec 31st 2007 1:45PM
but can it play Doom?
Nick @ Dec 31st 2007 1:50PM
I'm aghast. I thought the Centro couldn't be any uglier when it was first announced...
The designer for this phone must truly exist in some perceptually inverted universe where pink is the new black and ugly is the new sexy.
Dan @ Dec 31st 2007 2:04PM
They announced the Pink Centro to dealers and Sprint employees last month.
Bard @ Dec 31st 2007 2:32PM
It's funny....everyone keeps going off on the Centro with their snob attitude thinking that before the iPhone, there was NOTHING.
Yet, the Centro has been a HUGE hit for Sprint! I've seen dozens upon dozens more Centros out in the wild while I've only seen FOUR iPhones on the college campus I work on. Then again, many of us have LIVES that prohibit us from spending every cent we have on the bleeding-edge phones that have to be junked and updated every 4 months in order to be "133t" and just that much better than the other nerd.
Centro fills a gap in the consumer market and is doing rather well. I'm actually waiting for this to finally show up on Verizon or to get one to unlock for the service because when my girlfriend saw it, she instantly said "Get. Me. That." Besides, when given the option of a $500 iPhone from a carrier that won't even accept federal cash for a device or a $99 (soon to be free I imagine w/contract) device that is easy to use for someoen who has never used a smartphone, it's an economic no brainer.
I think the Centro is the FIRST thing Palm has done right in a while.
robinsmad @ Dec 31st 2007 2:42PM
I am the same 'TheRobin' that posted that. User 'rofl' posted it first. It's definitely legit.
Richard @ Dec 31st 2007 4:17PM
I think Palm have a winner on their hands with the Centro and adding pink is a great idea. Anyone who is anyone in marketing knows "pink sells" big time in both the Asian and Anglo market. Walk into any toy shop and look at the girls section, notice how it is all "Pink".
Backlin @ Dec 31st 2007 4:51PM
Haven't you people learned from the Pink Zune yet?
peachin @ Dec 31st 2007 5:43PM
Bard - You are the only one who has made sense in these comments. Buy some palm stock and put it away
Palm is like the nerd who everyone kicked in High School (actually engadget's favorite whipping boy) and came to the Reunion - all you heard was "Who is That?!" I hear you laughing - so when you park your rug cleaning trucks and enter the reunion - Bard will reintroduce himself and his friend Palm.

I've had my Centro (black) for about a month now on the SERO plan. It is a great palm phone! The actual phone use is fantastic and the apps with it are quick and easy. The form factor is good for me. Plus, it was only $99!!! Seriously, good move by Palm.
Also, the pink Centro has been talked about for a month, at least. The color photo that Robin posted at Sprintusers matches the pink color for Hello Kitty. Already, a lot of users on forums have been drooling for this new pink Centro. I think the pink will be a hit.

When are these Centros comeing out fo the GSMs?
robinsmad @ Dec 31st 2007 3:16PM
Sprint exclusivity ends mid-January, so probably soon after that. The GSM Centro going to ATT (Treo 685) is already mentioned on the FCC site.
TZK @ Dec 31st 2007 8:24PM
robinsmad: Nice! Thanks, brother.

I own a black (and manly) Centro, and I must say it is the only smartphone out there that actually feels like a phone and not a brick in my pocket. Plus it's dirt cheap.
