Dell's Crystal 22-inch fashion LCD now official
Well, at least we didn't have to wait long. After a bit of a premature showing on Dell's website in the AM, the Crystal is back for realsies. Obviously the notable thing here is the design statement Dell is making with all that glass and metal -- these days it's almost like they've started paying their designers or something -- but the good news is that beauty isn't only skin deep here, since this 22-inch LCD has a 1680 x 1050 resolution, 98% color gamut, 2ms response time, 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and a built-in 2 megapixel webcam. There are also built-in speakers, and fancy touch controls across the base of the monitor, all wired along the glass with style. Connections include DVI and HDMI with HDCP and DisplayPort. Perhaps the best news is that you don't have to wait until CES to pick this thing up: it's available now for $1,199.

Why does it look like an LCD screen with a piece of glass around it?! There is no "designing" here. The wires show through the glass for pete's sake! A kid could have made that for a project! Glass, some wire and some speakers. Apple and Sony have been doing glass designs on their displays without any wires showing, just floating buttons. That takes designing!
Not bad, especially coming from Dell...though their Crystal LCD Concept was much better looking than the final product (not really digging all the back highlights - looked much better with the silver and clear). I am an Apple fan and the reason I like to see some other cool stuff coming from other companies is because it puts a little fire under Apple's ass and causes them to produce some hot shit too...and it keeps us with more and more cool hot looking options to spend our good hard earned cash on great looking products. I am not going to argue which is better and why, not anymore - I look at purchasing Apple's computers as the best machines to run everything...thanks to Intel hardware. What I wish Apple would sell is a mid and high end motherboard with a license to run OS X for under $1,000 so I can build and add and make my own mac myself...Never mind I am getting off topic sorry about that - it tends to happen when I am on a SUPER CAFFEINE RUSH...Sorry if this upsets anyone that wasnt my intention.
I think they could have done something a little more elegant that that stupid tripod leg setup. They should have done a solid sheet stand in translucent plastic to make the entire monitor look like it was floating.
Monitors with speakers suck!
While I have no use for this combo - I'm glad dell is expanding their screen selection. Hopefully they are working on a 36" and a 40" version similar to their newly improved 30" screen. I know a lot of people waiting to buy new screens but they want something that really compares in quality to the new Dell 30". There are a lot of OK 40" combo TV screens but nothing that I've seen that really compares to the new 30" from dell in that size.
