I just bought a 1TB Western Digital MyBook. I wish I would have at least purchased the two drive system for RAID1 or the NAS version.
If the price of this is low enough I will really be regretting my purchase.
linux under the hood? I know about enterprise storage and not much about home stuff. But it seems like this is running software based raid. In the enterprise world this is usually slower. Any one know if this type is any good?
I wish i knew this was coming out a month ago when i bought my WD MyBook World Edition II. its cool that its unlockable but it's grossly underpowered (not to mention the MioNet crap its bundled with is a real choker)
I think if someone would come out with a NAS with decent horsepower, they could get away with charging a decent premium and people would still be happy. a nas that could entertain my lust for torrents, serve up some mediage, and/or host my web site and ftp site would not require more juice than your average old school beige-box, but it keep my system free enough to do the important things, like SETI (because aliens already have the cure for cancer, folding@home'ers, we just have to find them)
I saw something amazingy similar to one of these at a doomed CompUSA store and was actualy going to buy one. After scouring around and not finding anything, I just left. The whole place was picked over anyways.
I think it was a linksys, maybe?
Built myself a 5TB mATX NAS. Oh, how unappealing new NAS devices are. Have to admit, this HP one looks very nice though.
More details please. I'd looking to do something similar.
I read that the mv2120 also acts as an iTunes server. Something like this paired up with an AppleTV would make for a great entertainment center combo. No more keeping a 2nd system up running iTunes for streaming purposes.
Too bad 802.11n isn't listed in the specs though... I mainly stream 720p files so It looks like I'd have to use the built in gigabit ethernet.
dang that looks awesome, but I already have a NAS. Maybe next time.
