Kodak offers up EasyShare C813 point-and-shoot
We hope you weren't counting on Kodak to get you all amped up about this one, because its EasyShare C813 is about as ho hum as they get. This fantastically average point-and-shoot sports a been-there-done-that design, an 8.2-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom, 2.4-inch LCD monitor, ISO up to 1,250, 16MB of internal storage space and an SD / MMC expansion slot. Furthermore, you can capture video in Motion JPEG format at VGA (15fps) or QVGA (30fps), and considering that it runs on just a pair of AA cells, you won't have to worry over losing a proprietary battery. If you're still with us, you can call the C813 yours for $119.95 (or less on the street) -- just don't expect it to spice up your life, cool?

I rember when cameras could barely push 8mp. how times have changed.
16MB internal storage. what's that, 4 photos worth at 8MP?
What's the point in that?
The point is that they, along with nearly every other camera manufacturer, are expecting people to use memory cards. So why drive up the price of the camera with internal memory if most people don't need it?
Notice to engadget:
Not everything that comes from CES is worth of posting, it just makes your whole operation look like a cheap shill of an ad. It's average, it's not special/news worthy.
Give us NEWS, not free advertising for HP and Kodak and whoever the hell announces a shitty product.
I care about shitty products.. I'm not rich, and some day, when this camera hits the dollar store, maybe I'll buy one
Talk about coming late to the party, Wal-mart had this camera on sale for $89 the week before Christmas.
I know it's just Kodak, and I know it's just a $100 EasyShare camera, and I know it's digital, but where's the "analog" view finder?
I'm just sayin'...
Give Kodak credit for doing their homework. People who are the target market for this camera don't care about, noise, framing a picture correctly or silly things like an actual viewfinder.
If they bothered to put a "analog" viewfinder on here, they would get slammed by pedestrian reviewers (i.e. PC Magazine) that would hammer it for having "only a 2.3 LCD." Instead this way they will get a review that talks about what a "simple to use" camera it is with a "huge 2.4 LCD" It is all about the target market.
I totally agree. That's my biggest problem with compact digital cameras. Even if you don't use an optical view finder much, it's still a nice thing to have, but the obsession with giant LCDs on the backs has done away with them.
@JayMonster:
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Kodak. My wife bought an EasyShare around a year or so ago because of the price. It had a viewfinder, and I was comparing the two models against each other (Considering they do look an awful lot alike) when I left that comment. It was removed for a reason, yes, I understand that, but why?
Got it for $90 at Walmart. Nice. The same price as the c613 and c713.
Eh, I bought an easyshare Kodak and its fine for my simple point and shoot purposes. Its got a fair amount of options and comes at a very good price.
Yeah, I just picked it up at Wal-mart for $87. At my store anyhow, the C713 was $99. Anyone up for paying $10 more for 1 less magapixel?
I'm pretty happy with it- Nice big lcd too.
My wife bought this camera for me with along with the G613 printer dock. She appreciates that it is easy to use as well as compact. I have another "easy share" with 10X optical zoom that is great for some things, but can be clunky because of the lens size.
I use the 10X for player close ups from the nose bleed seats at an NFL game or maybe Yankee Stadium. This one will be great for picnics, family parties, backpacking, etc.
Memory cards are cheap now (2GB for $18), so that is really not a problem. I will not know if I miss a view finder until we get some SUNLIGHT in western NY *-)
OK, perhaps this is not for the elitist photographer, but for the average person (dilletantes like me) it seems like a great camera. I can make simple prints right from the camera or play with them using Photoshop software.
I cannot comment on the dock, since I have not tested it yet.
