Try to contain yourself when we rattle off the following list of specs for LG.Philips's latest A4 sheet of flexible e-paper: 14.3-inches, 1280 x 800 pixels, 16.7m colors, 300 micrometers thick, full 180° viewing angle. It'll be at CES, but apparently only for Korean models to hold and love. The rest of us? Not so lucky, not even by a long shot.

Oh no! A pretty girl is in the pic so we're bound to get a bunch of posts wondering if she is flexible too.
Chuckles McGee @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:35AM
I'd much prefer to hold and love the Korean models.
vaiyach @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:25AM
Great! He SO ruined my line!
:-S
Ghen @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:11AM
She's wearing a sweater, that ruins my day. Korean technology models should only ever wear body paint.
Flashpoint @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:57AM
She has such a soft smile.
My mind is filled with filth right now.
All the possible things I could do to that smile.
Constable Odo @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:37PM
Wow, she's got a Mona Lisa smile. I'm sure that sweetie is totally flexible from the way she is adoringly looking at that fake device. I sure like LG's ads.
Skullfighter @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:54PM
It can bend, but can it blend?
BigDaddyM @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:34AM
So these things bend, not fold, so curved displays? I guess for a watch that would be cool, but until they really fold or roll up, we will not have those fancy displays that roll into a tinny rod like they have in movies.

Wwhat @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:27AM
What's a 'watch'? wasn't that a thing they used to tell time last century?
L.Cyphre @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:45AM
Whoa, for a second there I thought it was Rie Tanaka!
Mike Campbell @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:06AM
I could care less about the fact that it's bendable, cool though that is. Imagine, though, a better designed and more stylish Kindle-equivalent that rocks an e-paper screen with those specs. Yep, A4 size AND in color folks. Can anyone confirm if this is indeed similar to E-ink displays in functionality, i.e.; it doesn't use power until the screen refreshes?
Lakritzator @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:13AM
Like the Iliad, but than with this new color epaper?
http://www.irextechnologies.com/products/iliad
That's what I am waiting for, got plenty of comics and E-Books lying around...
Lakritzator @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:11AM
The colors don't look very vivid to me, if those are real vegetables I do NOT want to eat them!
Andrew Velis @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:36AM
how come whenever we see announcements like these we never EVER see live video of the product in action only fancy photos with chicks. I am not doubting LG, they are a brand with a track record. I am only asking for a little bit more of visual experience.
Richard Lai @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:59AM
We'll just have to date one of them models.
Bad Beaver @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:36AM
Well, that containment thing didn't work out. Too glad this is e-paper. *wipe*
One word: Awesome! What's the refresh rate?
dulwhite @ Jan 4th 2008 9:10AM
Just a guess about refresh rate, but I'm willing to say.... 0.5 hz? Once it's on the screen, one of the reason it doesn't hurt the eyes is because it doesn't flicker or refresh constantly. It only re-draws when something on the screen changes - which is why amazon's kindle claims such a long battery life.
jd @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:46AM
i wonder what she would look like in blonde.
can some of the PS artist here change her hair from black to blonde?
Tamer Brad @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:52AM
hahahaha what the fuck dude
Bob @ Jan 3rd 2008 8:07AM
Until they make processors, network cards, memory and batteries that are paper thin this isn't going to reduce the size of anything.
In the photo, the gorgeous model is bending the paper in such a way so you can't see the PDA and AV socket glued to the back of it.
nathan.wong @ Jan 3rd 2008 8:36AM
So we've been reading about these damn foldable things for over a year now. Anyone going to step up to the plate and actually release it?
Wwhat @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:31AM
Don't be silly, it's for reading about, not for production, it's much too expensive and complicated to manufacture.
And if someone actually made a device with it it would indeed only be sold in japan/korea.
engadget @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:27AM
It's ok that it only flexes a little. Imagine an A43 sized sheet of glass a third of a millimeter thick. It would break if you even looked at it crooked! A very thin display needs some flexibility to be practical.
Speddy @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:32AM
No wonder they have a model showing their product! The image on the ePaper is some expired fruit?
johnnychipface @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:54AM
If they could combine this technology with wireless power then I could finally replace all of my real books with their electronic counterparts :) (I think...).
Matt @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:57AM
What models are you talking about???? This is probably one of theose humanoid Japanese robots. :-)
Wwhat @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:33AM
It says LCD on the picture, that means it's not really what is known as e-paper then eh.
Mike Campbell @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:17PM
Nice catch. I wish either these companies (or Engadget) would help clarify for the consumer by not confusing us with these terms. Damn, and here I thought e-ink had gone color. (>_
Constable Odo @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:32PM
Oh, not that far off. According to the exaggerated rumors, I thought they were supposed to introduce a flexible, foldable, thin MacBook laptop at MacWorld this year. Only the Mac version is supposed to fold up like a napkin so you can stick it in your shirt pocket.
ST @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:36PM
Nice, but what's its refresh rate.
nathan @ Jan 4th 2008 4:31PM
Sure Constable, all we need now is a foldable CPU, foldable motherboard, foldable HDD/SDD, and a foldable battery to go along with that. Not much to do in 2 years you say?
S&M @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:26PM
The idea is the electronics would be separate from the display. The display might be in the sleeve of your jacket for example while your smartphone/GPS stays in your pocket.
Skullfighter @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:56PM
Were you wanting a video of the product, or the model holding the product?
