BiTMICRO introduces 832GB SSD for CES 2008
The folks at BiTMICRO are about to blow some doors off of the SSD truck with a new product they'll be showing at CES this year. According to a press release, the company is introducing a new, 2.5-inch solid-state drive with a whopping 832GB of NAND flash goodness. The SATA II (3Gbps) drive is a new addition to the company's E-Disk Altima line, and utilizes a technology the company calls multi-level cell (or MLC) memory, which apparently doubles the number of bits stored per memory cell when compared with single-level cell (SLC) NAND. The drives are expected to ship Q3 2008 in capacities ranging from 32GB to 832GB -- and you can be sure we'll be staring intently at them (and asking for demo units) as soon as CES rolls around.

I guess it's time to put the house up for sale.
can we add this to the things we want included on the macbook pro ultraportable for $1500?!?!?!?!?
Has anyone bothered to ask if they are referring to gigabits and not gigabytes? The old GB vs Gb? It's all marketing. 832 is ridiculous if we are talking about gigabytes, considering there aren't any SSD drives around even 80 gigabytes, or 320 which would be a more comfortable and more cost-effective number...
you mean GB(decimal) vs GiB(binary). Gb is used when talking about transfer speeds. by the way does anybody know this bad boy's transfer speeds?
No, I mean what I said. There are certain people who decide to use a gigabit as a unit of measurement. After all, it has to be a unit of measure to be used as a transfer rate... it's an amount of data per second.
Iam so confused. The site says the max size is 416GB but engadget say 832GB which is it?
¿Does it cost less than a Ford Mustang 2007?
no, it costs more than a 2008 mustang fitted with wings and scramjets that gets 1000000 mpg running on woodchips
why the strangly random amount of storage. when i first read it i just thoght it was a mis-type and that it should be 32GB. meh.
Why all the hate? I'm glad SSD is getting mainstream. They will get better and bigger, prices will drop. Consumers win!
can anyone tell me why these things are 2.5 inches wide?
They are 2.5" wide so that they can fit in the same spot as industry standard laptop drives.
Laptop Drives are 2.5"
Computer Drives are 3.5"
CD-ROMs/Writers/etc are 5.12"
Hi John!
Well, I understand that's the reason. What I'm trying to point out is that these SSD's should be fitted like a SO-DIMM onto the mainboard. Although I do not know how many memory modules are inside such a SSD and if they need extra cooling.
Are SSD's in SO-DIMM format feasible?
Greetz, Frank
Want.
I do not believe until I see it. Thanks.
Man yea i would love to have a reasonable ssd drive in a laptop ranging from 60~ 100 gb in the future, just for the main os and basic uses. But to pay a shitload for 832 gb seems stupid. IF i need that much space I can get a regular hd and enclosure and connect via usb or firewire. Or get myself drobo and set up a server.
I want my 832 Gig iPod!!
If this thing costs $30/gb (an entirely reasonable estimate, given the prices of current SSD's), you'll be plunking down nearly $25,000 for this drive. Only a Saudi oil prince would be able to put this in his Counterstrike rig. Give me a break!
It's official, like I've been expecting. The PS4 will have at least 2TB of SSD memory. Probably no disc drive. 2TB would be enough. Even if each PS4 game was 50GB, you could hold 40 games.
Somebody's breaking Moore's Law
Meh.. rumors ftl..
The writer either misworded this or, not to be rude, does not understand what it is talking about. On the website it says their highest capacity is 32gb or 64gb(not sure) So I think if that 832gb is a real number, they got that by using many 2.5in drives. So not only would that cost a fortune, it would be huge! So this is no breakthrough here, I am almost certain.
Lemme see...
I saw on frugal that a 128GB SSD costs about $30 per GB = 25K for a 832 GB drive. Trade in your Audi for a Mac Book with one of these SSD in it !
Jesus christ you people are stupid as all fuck. Did anyone read the article? They put out a press releases about them SHOWING it at CES not releasing it for sale or even putting in on their website. My god
The release is listed here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?p=1143550
and not I'm not pushing that website
dude. look at the website they have a bigger one too! In the 3.5" ( so for desktops) capacity goes all the way to 1.6TN+B in SSD

cant wait till the new macbook comes out with the new NAND flash memory
832gb in a macbook can u imagine!!!!
so since 832gb is close to 1tb we should expect one out by oh lets say...tomorrow, right? after-all "tomorrow is only a day away..."? :) tech is sooo slllooow these days! lmao
Dude, that'll fit right in to my Dell quantum computer with interdimensional heat exchanger.
Yes, it is on their website, and yes, they are a high end OEM company who serves a lot of DoD and Government applications, so these things will not be in the consumer reach anytime soon.
