Nintendo says no full DS game downloads coming to Wii, just demos
Well, that didn't take long. Just over a day after The New York Times got all our hopes up with word that complete DS game downloads were headed for the Wii, comes word that the big N's Reggie Fils-Aime actually said no such thing, and that only DS game demos would be available, as expected. In issuing the correction, Nintendo also confirmed that, like other content that currently be beamed to the DS, the demos will be erased once the handheld is switched off. Unfortunately, there's still no word as to when that service might actually be available, with Nintendo only going so far as to say that it's coming sometime "in the future."

To add to what I said yesterday: I TOLJA SO!
Fank @ Jan 4th 2008 5:28PM
Jesus Christ. Of course there won't be full game downloads. It has no internal memory. If you turn it off, you'd have to download/transfer it all over again. That is practical, at all.
ARealOG @ Jan 4th 2008 5:28PM
This was noted days ago on websites like GBAtemp.net. Any one who knows anything about the DS knows that it has only 4MB (Megabytes) of RAM. RAM is where the store demos and DS Download Play is stored until the unit is turned off (Volatile memory). So unless Nintendo made some sort of RAM pack like they do for the for the Opera browser, full games would not be possible unless they were under 4MB. (Well if I recall, the Brain Age 2 ROM is only two point something megabytes)

Correction Ds has 8 MB Memory pak 8MB

"Nintendo also confirmed that, like other content that that currently be beamed to the DS"
I make mistakes like that all the time when writing...
robert @ Jan 5th 2008 12:26AM
Yeah, I make mistakes like that that too.

If you really, really like a demo, then you don't have to switch the DS off. It can stay in sleep for a looooooong time if you connect it to the charger.
Aparoid @ Jan 4th 2008 5:56PM
Well that was quick. :P
DespoticWolf @ Jan 4th 2008 6:29PM
duh... where the hell would the full game be stored in?... by the way big N***a get a lot of good games or else i wont buy the Wii
Jamesology @ Jan 4th 2008 6:36PM
After I beat Mario Galaxy my Wii is pretty useless. They should at least make more games that would last more than a week. I bought that Cranium:Kabooki game last week and what a disappointment. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii dies out soon.
At least my DS is still promising.
FIR3BRDRACR @ Jan 4th 2008 6:42PM
Hmm, not many good games?
doesnt seem to stop the PS3 fanboys...
food for thought :]
PLUS, the wii is the hottest selling system out there
it'll be around a while
Jamesology @ Jan 4th 2008 11:20PM
Yeah I got the PS3 too, what a mistake that was too. I do admit I prefer Sony products but WOW the PS3 was a bad investment. I ended up buying a 360 Pro.
As for the Wii, it is selling big now but for how much longer? It looks like another Tickle me Elmo effect. Everyone goes wild over it and then when everyone has it and realize how pointless it is and tells their friends that, then it dies.

The Wii will never have a lot of "awesome" games in comparison to the xbox360 because that is not Nintendo's market. Nintendo has been, and always will be, a family entertainment system. That means games that the whole family can enjoy, not epic adventures or mature gruesome shooters. Yes there are occasionally epic games like Zelda but they are the exception not the rule.
Right now if you are thinking "Wii has no good games, they better come out with a lot of good games if I am going to buy one" then you are in the small percentile that Nintendo doesn't care too much about. Wii's are still selling out of stores weekly and they are producing over 1 million units per month. Do you really think they are worried about you not buying one?
The main video gaming demographic has always been somewhere around 14-28 but right now Nintendo is attracting everyone from age 6 to 78 with the Wii.
Just because YOU don't enjoy the Wii doesn't mean it is the epic failure you hope it will be; it is indeed quite the opposite.

mcbeanish @ Jan 4th 2008 9:17PM

So Today I got one of those urges I get every once in a while to buy a Wii. Ive wanted one but never enough to wait in lines only to be rejected by the limited number of units at the store. Today I went on craigslist and ebay only to be disappointed by the greed of these people hording units and marking them up even used consoles above cost. I called every walmart, sears, ciruit-city and best buy, costco, sams club, shop-ko, game-stop, American and radio shack within 50 miles and not one had a wii other than walmart. Walmart was hording them for a specific release time which I got two answers for 12am and 8am. Walmart teased me by saying they had them but they weren't selling them until a few days later. What the Hell Nintendo, Its been a year and I know your the only ones in the market making money off your console but come on now meet the demand. Stop teasing us by updating your features and making sweet enhancements and not having units stocked in all stores. Engadget feel free to send me a console if you have an extra lying around. :)

nintendo say that they will be able do what the PSP currently does and then says just kidding we can not do any of that
lol
jonnybiscuits @ Jan 8th 2008 11:21PM
Well, perhaps no "legitimate" downloads. Although I think the underground Wii community are fairly well served by a number of existing services.
