Apparently, Norcent isn't the only scarcely-mentioned company
busting out some new kit at CES, as SOYO is also gearing up to show off a pair of impressive HDTVs in Vegas next week. It seems as though the firm is ditching the whole "bigger is better" mantra, and is instead focusing on squeezing more pixels into tighter spaces. The unnamed 32-inch plasma will feature a presumably sub-1080p resolution, a 1,500:1 contrast ratio, 500 nits of brightness, twin HDMI inputs, a single component / two composite inputs, S/PDIF audio out and a remarkable $499 price tag. As for the LCD, this 24-incher will boast a full 1080p resolution, a pair of HDMI / component jacks, picture-in-picture functionality, 500 cd/m2 brightness, a three-millisecond response time, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and an MSRP of $699. Sadly, we've no clue when either of these sets will be available for purchase, but hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later.

That seems silly, making the smaller screen full HD, and the larger not. We have a 32" and its only 1080i and due to the great medium range size it still looks great, so why shove all those pixels on an even smaller screen?

exactly!!

oof, does the fact that one is LCD and one Plasma have an effect. ignore me then.

I thought I saw Sony and plasma in the same sentence for a second... got my hopes up.

I wonder if they got lazy and stuck a 24" 16:10 PC monitor panel in that screen, or weather it has a proper 24" 16:9 TV panel.

Makes sense to me...offer a 32" that's priced very competitively with the other budget models, or lure the budget-minded 1080p seekers with an option that's far below what most sets with that resolution cost. It's just crazy enough to work, in my opinion.

This is just what I have been waiting for. A monster TV in an apartment just looks tacky...but if I had a big house that would be a different story. The problem this solves is having a quality picture without having a TV dominate the only living space.

Never, never, NEVER buy anything Soyo makes! I had 4 different LCD monitors from them over the course of about a month and got a total of 5 days of functionality. The transformers burn out practically as soon as you turn them on. I got tired of exchanging them under warranty (oh, Soyo ALSO makes you pay for shipping both ways when you exchange, and they take their sweet time about getting you your replacements even when you pay extra for expedited service) so I just got a refund from my place of purchase.

Good luck getting the rebates. Cold deal.

SOYO, the company that made sh*t computer motherboards then exits the market and goes quiet when consumers backlash has returned to strike again. I certainly will not be buying anything from them.

I'm sorry but is "32-inch plasma" a typo? FHP (Fujitsu-Hitachi Plasma) the only company that was making these stop making those PDP over 7-years ago. So?, how come Soya Sauce here is making PDPs in that size.
