Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
do they use avchd?
And what bit rate?... AVCHD's maximum is 24 Mbps, but consumer videocameras still record at only half that rate - imagine having HDV but recording on only half of the tape width.
One day a manufacturer will release a nice small AVCHD videocamera with a high bit rate. And I'll probably buy it.
oh yeah. bring it on baby!
*facepalm*
Damnit guys, COVER THE SIGNS UP WHEN YOU'RE SETTING UP FOR THE SHOW. Morans.
God forbid that a company get publicity on a snappy product before the show. That would be such a nightmare.
Well, the problem is that it steals the thunder from the show. By the time they "officially" announce these, everyone gonna look at them and say "Flash based cameras from Canon? Old news. OOOOH! What did Sony just announce?!"
I am not quite sold on flash based camcorders just yet but I would not mind having one of these to tinker around with.
I'll pass on AVCHD. It's a headache to edit.
I am not sure this stuff from Canon warrants a huge blowup of an unaesthetic camcorder (looks wise).
Samsung has already introduced a similar 'dual flash' camcorder a couple of months back (and we are all well aware of how fluid the HD camcorder market is with respect to PC editing / viewing):

That said, I would still wait for the final specs to come out before commenting further!
when they'll release the 1080p camcorders?
