Logitech's Harmony One, Squeezebox Duet, and diNovo Mini in the flesh
by Chris Ziegler, posted Jan 5th 2008 at 8:47PM
Logitech put up a strong showing at CES Unveiled this evening, so naturally, we had to stop by and evaluate the wares. We were particularly impressed with the Squeezebox Duet, and we think it's a good sign of things to come out of the company's acquisition of Slim Devices last year -- Sonos better look out with that one. The diNovo Mini won't set any records for typing speed, but it's a fabulous concept for controlling a PC from a few feet away, and as for the Harmony One, we'd wager it's the best looking Harmony remote to date. The Dinovo Edge will be a welcome addition to the PS3

at 200$ i think the ps3 will be jealous.

That keyboard is much smaller than I thought it would be. Looks nice!
Does the new Harmony remote feel cheap? Or pretty solid?

when i saw the pic i thought its some new weird ipod :S
bradwjensen @ Jan 6th 2008 3:51AM

Logitech is updating everything except the one thing I want them to, a new high end 5.1 setup! My z680s are old and I know the moment I buy the z5500s, they will announce the replacement for them :/

Also, why do Harmony remotes have to cost so much? I really want one but I cannot justify that insane price tag. Hypocritical I guess since Im typing this from a DiNovo Edge, one of the most expensive KBs ever, but welllll worth it.

CES. Slick and functional gadgets.
Nice.

thank you logitech! the squeezebox duet is exactly what i've been hoping someone would release... previous squeezeboxes put a good emphasis on sound quality, but without a remote for browsing songs, they were useless to me. the wireless music dj seemed like an ideal solution, but i hated the way it acted as a soundcard and sent the music over a proprietary wireless system; it also seemed flawed in that the music would skip and the interface was slow.
if this device combines a slick interface with an attention to sound quality, this could absolutely kill the sonos. the price is higher than i'd like, but it's not outrageous.
jjdupree @ Jan 6th 2008 12:38AM
Yeah and fortunately even if the price is high, it will still be cheaper than spending 1000 bucks on a sonos bundle.
SuperQ @ Jan 6th 2008 1:18AM
Price is out:
$150 for the Squeezebox Receiver
$300 for the Squeezebox Remote
$400 for the combo deal
I've been able to beta-test the remote with my existing Squeezeboxes, it's really slick. You can also download the source code to the remote from their website.

I too was one of those stupid enough to buy a Wireless DJ. Whenever it fleetingly worked, it was very good. But the rest of the time it was a pain in the arse. Songs always skipping, slow to update, ages for Vista compatibility, steals your PCs sound, etc.
Frankly Logitech should give all their Wireless DJ customers one of these free. Last time I become one of their beta testers...

I'm excited about the addition to the squeezebox. My house is wired with three of the Slim Devices originals, but this looks like a very nice tool. Should be an exciting year.

$300 for the remote is ridiculous. I can get an iPod Touch for that price, with a bigger screen and use it as a remote.
