Nokia "Dora" to replace E65
We were still kinda settling in with the businesslike E65 slider, a phone that feels like it just found its way into widespread commercial availability a few months back. Ah, that's because it did! No bother, though; time marches mercilessly on, and Nokia's apparently getting ready for the inevitable future with this here piece coined "Dora." We know this from the same endless barrage of Vodafone leaks that have plagued the carrier today, and we're sensing some common themes: like several others in the mix, this one features 3.6Mbps HSDPA, GPS, and WiFi. The camera is up from 2 megapixels to 3.2, and we're a tad skeptical on this one, but the slide claims that we can expect a 320 x 320 display which would be an improvement over the E65's 320 x 240. This one's expected on Voda next quarter for £280 (about $554).

Ahhh Nokia, why did you have to stop making CDMA phones? This beautiful dime piece would have been wonderful on Verizon/Telus's CDMA networks. Well this looks like it will be back to GSM for me.
tamoghno @ Jan 6th 2008 3:16AM
thats because no one cares about CDMA! at least the world don't care .

Well Nokia really sucks in keeping secrets.
And that really make every surprises become nothing special.

Blame Vodafone,
And the 320x320 display is clearly a typo, it even says QVGA (320x240) before it
silverblackvoid @ Jan 5th 2008 11:53PM
the screen res is 320x320, yet the screen is kinda rectangle. i maybe wrong but wouldn't that make the graphics stretch?

Only a few months? The E65 has been readily available a whole lot longer than that. Where have you guys been?
Chris Ziegler @ Jan 6th 2008 12:45AM
Not stateside, Mr. H. I believe they weren't available until June here.

They were technically available in the first quarter of 2007. A lot of people were buying them pretty early last year I remember. Even if they weren't available until June, that's still a half a year. A few months sounds like they were released in October.

Who the hell would get this when there is the n95? The price of the n95 and the projected price of this are soo similar. Who'd bother?
...unless you *really* need that 320*320 screen. For what? I know not.

I have an E65 and a N95. The E65 form factor is very compact and more pocketlike. Don't get me wrong. The 95 is a sweet piece of hardware, but a little too bulky.
Looks like this is also the first real sign that the E and N monikers will be dropped going forward.

Does it come with Boots?
holycow @ Jan 6th 2008 3:34AM
when is Nokia "Spongebob" coming out ?
elithemicrowave @ Jan 6th 2008 4:42AM
First "Wanda" now "Dora".... what the hell is happening to cell phone companies? Are they just running out of names..?
Yours Smugly @ Jan 6th 2008 5:15AM
@ elithemicrowave: They have just realized (like, for example, Apple before them) that people like and memorize real product names better than some obscure numbers-letters combination. Can you believe it! Nokia recently openly admitted this and has begun attaching real names to their phones, like this, "Liam" and "Luna".
Fredster @ Jan 6th 2008 6:35AM
Yes, they are code names, and wrong ones too, the first letter is correct but not the three latter ones;)
Pdexter @ Jan 6th 2008 7:22AM
Looks okish, but it think i'll take the N71...thought i'm still not so sure about those specs 320x320 isnt right that's for sure. Hopefully they will announce it in CES, but it havent ever really been major event for Nokia so maybe in 3GSM then.
Korsakow @ Jan 6th 2008 7:52AM
I really hope they have improved the overall responsiveness of the OS. My E65 is annoyingly sluggish in some situations. Also UMTS speeds when using it as a modem have been pretty weak. Nonetheless its still a reliable and relatively compact phone.
