Dell prepping XPS 630i: compact, entry-level gaming rig
Dell is planning to show off the latest desktop in its XPS line, the 630i, at CES, which the company is positioning as an entry-level gaming machine to complement the larger, more powerful XPS 720 (pictured above). Although no specs or images have been posted yet, Dell's teaser release calls this new model a "middleweight contender with heavyweight power," promising that while it's "more compact than the powerhouse XPS 720 family, it won't compromise on performance." Expect the XPS 630i to be announced this spring, along with the requisite pricing and configuration deets.

The more PC Gamers the better.

Indeed.

Finally. The 720's case has always been too large at over 22" in height and the XPS 420 never had the ability for SLI graphics.
Can't wait to see how it looks.

I own the 420(typing on it right now) and there's only one thing(besides no SLI, will have to buy a new MB and PSU) that really bothers me, it's the case. Not the looks, it looks fantastic, but it has horrible airflow. With the side on, my 8800gt gets too hot for comfort, so I have to leave the side off.. :/ not too big a of a hassle, but you know I spent $1500+ on a computer, I want it to be perfect.

why can't you use one of those mini spot fans?

Compact?

Entry level gaming rig. I dunno but something seems odd, I mean if your serious about games that will run future ones at least get a mid range rig, because it will save you from buying a new one later on (see crysis).

If I had one of these, I would never let Windows touch it.

I wouldn't let my brother touch it either. :)

Seriously, I am VERY interested in this. The 420 (lol...) is too 'mainstream' for a gaming PC, and the 720 is too expensive and hard-core for my needs.
You can get some good hardware in the 420 now, but it seems a little light-duty, where a 'junior' 720 would fit the bill.
I'm loving my Vostro 1400, and as long as it doesn't let me down, I will be checking out this Dell.

I have played around with a prototype of this computer. It was running Windows Vista x86 and had a 3.0ghz Extreme processor with a 8800GT 512mb video RAM. it ran 4 gigs of RAM (dont know why it was x86 instead of x64). It also had two 1TB drives in a mirrored RAID. We played Crysis on it on medium settings (highest we could go without getting bad framerates).
It was an all around good system that played everything but crysis on very high.

Oh btw it also had a 16x Blu-Ray Drive and a X-Fi soundcard.
The video card is the $900 Nvidia one so idk if it really was the 8800GT
