Let's hope Sharp has fixed the 'banding' problem which seems to have affected many of their previous models (including 2 that I've personally encountered and sent back)

Amen. I've liked their sets in the store but reports of these issues have scared me off. If they solve that problem, they've got a great product.

Sharp simply refuses to lose that ugly silver chin on their LCD panels. Yes it is a speaker bar but what makes it so hard to paint the damn thing black. I wonder if the banding issue has been fixed...Sharp AQUOS LCDs have a strange pixel layout (hexagonal vs grid) so hopefully they can work out any issues with banding.

I think the banding only shows up if you look for it. Either that or I got lucky. I have a Sharp 46 inch 64u model display and the picture on it looks really nice. I can't really tell a difference between it and when I go to my friend's house to see his Sony 46v2500. And for the price I paid for the Sharp, I can't really ask for more.
