Sony Alpha A200 DSLR announced
Sony has announced details of their Alpha A200 DSLR to Swedish news sources and though our Swedish ain't so great (har du sedd min kaslonger), that hasn't stopped us from digging into the specs as translated on Photography Bay. The 10.2 megapixel camera seems awfully similar to their previous Alpha A100 DSLR (is this the supposed successor?) with some obvious changes, including a slightly bumped 2.7-inch LCD (up from 2.5-inch) and a 750 shot lithium-ion battery (up from 600). No word on release date or price, but we'll keep our ears open, okay?
Update: It's been announced for the US, details here.

That was Danish ^^ But actually Swedish is very easy to understand. The price is: 6.900 Swedish Kroner, about $1084, but expect that price to be a lot smaller in US. Regarding release it's February 2007.

Haha sorry my third post, of course the release date is in 2008, but the press release says 2007 :P

The camera looks okay, but that battery grip looks terrible. It doesn't fit the bodies form at all (and it hardly adds to the ergonomics)

seriously? I think it looks like it would be pretty nice to hold when used sideways

Have you seen the grips for the comparable Nikon and Canon models (d300 and 40d)? They look way better. That looks bubbly and plastic; not professional at all. Just my opinion, of course.

*looks down on the d300 w/ the mb-d10... yeah, I've seen it... honestly the sony one looks hellofalot more ergonomic then this flat brick :/

Looks like ISO was bumped up to ISO 3200. I would bet they are using some of the noise reduction technology the A700 has now in this model.
Also, it has the option for a vertical grip, which is good news. This is definitely the successor to the A100 I would imagine.

I have A700 (got to Ukraine from USA) and A200 looks more like A700 then A100.
Seems like A200 is not A100 successor, but A700 smaller brother, because A700 has better screen (640x480), better sensor (12Mpx, 6400 ISO) and more controls, but almost identical body.

Yeah....Sony already has a site up for it...

I have the A100 and I'm not feeling down at all, I think it's almost identical so I don't feel frustrated. The A700 is what worries me, I feel like selling my camera to get one of those.

Great camera for the price, comfortable, excellent IQ and more.
