Now, we don't have a whole bunch of info on Jook right now, and sure, the press photos claim that "actual products may differ from pictures," and yeah, the patents are pending. Still, it seems like the dock connector-attached unit will be bringing some Zune-style social networking features to your lonely, non-WiFi iPod. Of course, we all know how successful The Social has been in Microsoft's court -- but with the massive proliferation of iPods on the street, this might gain a little more ground. We do worry about the use of the term "music standard," the apparently-necessary headphones, and the fact that the company doesn't appear to have a website, but hey -- you never know.
I guess this is cool for people who want to do a jook move
Nobody has a jook dongle and nobody will buy one until somebody does.
This catch-22 dilemma was the Zune's social networking downfall, and this is no different, iPod platform or not.
What a waste of developer time and investor money. Sigh...
I've had a Zune for a while now and I have to admit, I really love it! But I've never used the WiFi for tading songs with someone else EVER! Not once! WiFi is nice for wireless syncing though. ;)
Strangely, I have five friends with Zunes. I guess it just kind of depends on who you know. I was the first adopter, and convinced the others, and now we share music almost every week. It's possible (but doubtful) that this may happen with this device. I wonder if it's compatible mp3-wise with the Zune?
for some reason, i feel like this thing is going to be something similar to an FM transmitter. from what i've read about it, it doesn't sound like actual files are trasmitted...
Hey, those look just like my Razer Protones. Thems are some nice 'phones. Service sounds iffy, though.
The only thing is, people buy Zune because it's a solid MP3 player (I did). I love it more than any MP3 player I have ever owned. The "social" simply comes along with it, making it a potentially successful idea.
If the "social" was an accessory, you can be 100% sure I wouldn't be joining in anytime soon.
Ever.
This thing is going to fail miserably.
Wait a minute, wasn't Jook the name of the company in Shattered Glass? Something smells fishy here.....
You have got to be Jooking...
More weight in extraneous hardware than the ipod itself...
Hey Newman,
The headphones look like pro-tones because Jook is a subsidiary of Razer.
Their website is www.jook.us
