Nullriver to release MediaLink Mac / PS3 media sharing app this week
Details are fairly light on this one, but it looks like Mac users wanting to bring some Connect360-style media sharing to their PlayStation 3 and computer of choice will soon be able to get their fix, and from the same folks behind that well-worn app, no less. According to Nullriver, it'll be releasing its MediaLink application later this week, which it says has been "designed from the ground up for the PS3" and provides "true integration with the Mac." No word on a price, though we wouldn't expect it to be too out of line with the $20 the company currently charges for Connect360 (a free trial of which is also available).

Sweet! I owned Connect360 when I had my Xbox 360 (before the RROD) and it worked perfectly!! I could stream music to it and have all my Mp3's streaming while I played games. It was awesome. My cousin is looking for something like this for his PS3 and I might use it. I'll probably still use Front Row and my MBP though.
Awesome. Because our Mac formatted iPods don't work with the PS3 (had to reformat), I've been waiting for something like this.
Does that mean that movies and TV Shows in my iTunes Account would stream to my PS3? That would be awesome.
check it out!

download doesn't work. dope!
download doesn't work. dope!
i am having great luck using eyeConnect from el gato for this purpose.
it will be interesting to see what this software can do.
same here. eyeconnect does the job :) movies, music, pics.. all working.
sadly the kiss media player wich is promoted to understand UPNP AV recognises nothing. never.. ever buy a kiss... unstable thing :)
I've been using mediatomb (http://mediatomb.cc/) under Linux and that's been working fine for me. I use it primarily to stream video to my PS3. I don't know if the aforementioned MediaLink or EyeConnect do transcodes (the PS3 has been notoriously finicky about video formats, though that's gotten better with the last firmware update) but apparently mediatomb does so, although I haven't used that feature.
Oh, and it's open source, free (of course), and works under MacOS via Fink...
Alright I got my PS3 to see it and now it throws up more errors than eyeconnect. And unlike eyeconnect does not play any of my media.
Granted the binary probably isn't the final version I just tried it on a PPC and Intel machine and in both cases the app crashed as soon as my PS3 accessed it. I have a reasonably sized iTunes library and a lot of Japanese language dependencies (including my PS3 from Japan). If any Nullriver rep is watching this thread, please reply so I can send you log files and such....
I tried it and it works perfectly for me...I have a C2D Mini running Leopard.
NHL 2004...still the best one, although NHL 08 make overtake it at last.
I just downloaded it. In 30 seconds everything was working perfectly. Ill have no problem paying that $20
This worked for one divx file i tried. Once I threw a MP4 (h.264) file at it the Program had a DLNA error 2101 and then stopped working completely. Eyeconnect works perfectly for me, although the price exorbitant.
I get the same error with MP4. Basically, I can view all folders perfectly, but Photos and Audio Podcasts show no files (they're full of files), and video podcasts show files but give me the dlna protocol error when I try to view any of them.
Hopefully these will be fixed quickly, as it looks to be a sweet app!
I opened the ports and it dosen't do anything for me, i have the 360 vers. and works fine, can someone help. will not buy this until im sure it works ok.
Check out a video capture of MediaLink in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbfXnaxz_as
Seems like they have taken notice to the problems, a bring up of their pages shows a message in red saying: "Version 1.01 should resolve issues with Mac OS X 10.4.x".
Alright I gave the V1.01 a try, and it works. But there is a 15 sec lag when after clicking on an mp3...So it works alright, and I am sure it will be improved as time progresses.
Anyone able t compare this to Twonky?
I was oh so close to buying the full version (of Twonky) before I saw this post.

Twonky has never worked well at all for me, it disconnects constantly. Medialink is already better despite a few flaws. The fact that 1.02 has already been released means that they are working on it. Connect360 (from the same developers) is very well done and I think Medialink will soon be of the same high quality.
