Alienware was showcasing a swank new curved display here at CES, and apparently, the DLP RPTV is a must-have for gamers. Hear this: 0.02-millisecond response time. Need we really say anything more?
holy sh*t... i'm pretty sure .002ms is a lot faster than even the human eye can detect. but anyways, that curved display is really innovative... imagine playing F.E.A.R. on that thing... creepy little girl
Yeah man, and like she said, it'd be great for World of WarCraft!
You need those quick response times and huge screen real estate when you're running through the same area you've run through 5,000 times before, or sitting in an auction house.
I am soo there! I wonder how much this bad boy is gonna cost. Its just one step closer to virtual gaming. Theres really no reason why they can't do this with LCD (aside from the response times). The gaming market is definitely more interested in the more immersing game play than the response times.
Touche, but they should be able to figure that out; with enough panels put together, it would appear to be curved. Either way, this product is marred by thickness until LCD or OLED is implemented.
I have no sound at the moment, so forgive me if the video answered this.
1. Resolution? 2. Size? 3. Other models? 4. When does it ship? 5. How much will it cost? 6. How much would a similar setup cost if done with (a) projector(s)?

a quick google search would provide you with most, if not all, of the information you are asking for.
1. 2880x900 2. size of two 24 inch LCD Panels 3. first of it's kind 4. second half 2008 5. between a KIA and a 17" LCD Panel 6. all depends on the equipment you buy, prolly around $1500-2500

I wonder how tempted Veronica was, in thinking of ways to get that bad boy out of there. I would have a hard time not figuring out a way "Wow, that is one nice tv. So do you mind if i take that with me, just to test it out with W.O.W? Yes i will give it back!" I can tell that is what she thought of, when she mentioned about WOW.
That is one nice tv, too bad its going to cost way TOO MUCH!!! Still sweet though, it would be fun playing COD on that.
your peripheral vision is a bonus in something like this. If you have been a total recluse and never tried looking around using peripheral vision, your right, you won't get any benefit from this display, but if you allow your mind to also take in information from the sides on a daily basis, this monitor is just the ticket to drastically increase your field of view. It's amazing how I catch the smallest changes or detect movement from the corners of my eyes.
Any one else wonder how bad that will affect aspect ratio? To my knowledge, very few games allow a custom FOV setting.... and if they do... wtf setting could you use to make it NOT looked stretched to the point of unplayable....
Don't get me wrong, but I think this is a rare case of hardware outdating the software.
Nice screen though. However, I like my arm, leg and soul. Think I'll stick to my 21" LCD for now.
Didnt all the back projection tv screens suck completely. If this is based on the same tehnology it will look washed out and nowhere near as good as an lcd or plasma screen.
It's not really the equivalent of two 24" monitors. The "curve" only has a resolution of 2880 x 900. While nice, it's far short of 3840 x 1200. Does this thing count as one monitor, driven by one GFX card, or do you need a second GFX card?
Saw the same design/unit with NEC logo slapped on it at the TI booth. Looks like Dellienware just slapped their logo on it as well... so much for doing your own R+D.
Interesting thing...while walking around the HP booth at CES, I fell in love with the HP Blackbird. So I called in an order, and chatted with the Voodoo PC guys about the Curve screen. Apparently, Voodoo Labs is also working on a version similar to this. That's going to cost a house, for sure.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"

typo: meant .02ms
i'm also pretty sure that .02ms doesn't matter with a 60 or even 75hz refresh rate.

Or chatting with 12 year olds. Go WoW.
who knows... what if it was 120hz? actually... that probably still wouldn't matter. point is, .02ms is fast. :P
Word to the creepy girl. Holy crap, I just watched somebody play that and i got scared. but yeah, this screen is pretty sick
Seeing as how most new DLP tv's coming out feature 120hz displays, I don't see a reason why this one would not feature such a refresh rate.
"need we say more?"
yes.price.
heh. If you're in the market for something like this, I have a feeling price isn't really the issue for you. More pressing is; when?
It's alienware, it's gonna be an arm, a leg, and your soul.
I guess the old addage "If you have to ask, then you probably can't afford it." applies.
Suddenly my widescreen 19-incher looks so bland and... square... :(
lots of games like...world of warcraft?! FAIL for trying to be a gamer
HAHA. i know, right? Wow is for 10 year olds and noobs.
and hot tech reporters
@Lazerface
...and guys with low standards for women.
because headlines like "SURPASSES 9 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS WORLDWIDE" don't mean anything.
what's your game?
@biged
WTF? what do you mean low standards? veronica belmont is like aphrodite
@aznofazns
yeah except not really.
@ Big Ed
Because we'd rather watch a video of your girlfriend reporting on tech...oh wait.

There's no reason LCDs can't do this except for the fact they can't curve.
Touche, but they should be able to figure that out; with enough panels put together, it would appear to be curved. Either way, this product is marred by thickness until LCD or OLED is implemented.
Virtual gaming? Pshaw, I play *real* videogames. Beat that!

Insane software+ (insane rig+ a) = insane gaming experience = 0/a $
Yes, i found the value for the variable to complete my equation.
equivalent of 2 24" screens? So if they're both 16:9, then that thing is 32:9?
The 24inch lcd Monitor is 16:10
i'll be expecting my opponents to have this. and i'll be prepared. DEATH FROM ABOVE!
haha
0.02-millisecond is equivalent to 0.000002 second (I dont think so)
i think she meant .002 second = 2-millisecond
Too bad you'd have to actually move your head to see everything. You'd have tons of blindspots. Overall, this is still a freakin cool looking monitor.

Very nice response time!! Not sure how many games out there support this kind of resolution or setup or FOV. Won't this be stretched in some games?
am I the only one who wonders...what kind of system can run Crysis on 2800x900 (obviously ultra-high settings)
Finding wallpaper would be a pain.
WTF? hot chicks like veronica dont play WoW... see how she tries to remember what they told her to say.... nice screen
Oh, hot girls do play WoW. I'm not really one of them (I mean, I'm not a monster but I'm being honest here), but trust me, they do.
http://www.myspace.com/poshsuicide is the one that comes to mind.
And as for everyone who thinks hot girls play only because their boyfriends got them into it... I played WoW first, I got my boyfriend hooked.
I stand corrected
Why no LCD??

So, now girls who make their living by getting paid for lonely men to ogle them for cash playing WOW validates its awesomeness? Fail.

Lol, nice one.
I do think she means 0,02 MILIseconds, its new technologie! So it is 0,02ms...
Can't wait when it'll ship
I thought she was hot until she started talking about WoW.
