Dude, Korea knows we've been sending humans to do a robot's job for far too long already, and in a few short years the dangerous world of high rise construction could be left to the true masters of
the craft. By 2010, the Korean Construction and Transportation Ministry hopes to have an almost completely automated construction process in place for high-rise projects that could cut labor costs by up to a third, project timelines by 15 percent, and reduce the number of construction-related injuries on these typically dangerous projects. Of course, an inevitable robotic Jurgis Rudkus will be blowing the whistle on robotic working conditions shortly thereafter. Still, civilization stands to benefit greatly from the accelerated completion of super-sized skyscrapers -- at least until the builders turn on us and convert us into human fuel cells.

I'm sure using robots to build skyscrapers isn't going to be much different from the robots which have been used for ages to build cars.
Tim Brown @ Jan 8th 2008 5:15AM
My worry is that they will forget the skyscrapers and start to build their fortresses and robot overlord manufacturing plants!
carolyn @ Jan 8th 2008 7:41AM
get real! i really don't see robots taking over like that but to the idea about them building the high rises...brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robot overlords are a common joke and theme of this site http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=robot+overlords. You will also note the final sentence of the article also hints at this joke.

@Carolyn
You won't be saying that when they complete their first fortress; and begin the long war to world domination.
steve @ Jan 8th 2008 2:31PM
@Jonathan Bergeron
It won't be a long war. Everyone will welcome the overlords. Takeover will be instantaneous. Resistance is futile
Ed @ Jan 8th 2008 5:29AM
Oh please convert me into a human fuel cell.
Neo took the WRONG pill :)
Of course, I would want to be famous, rich, handsome, and dating twenty-something hotties in Hollywood.

pretty soon people will be screwing robots. We wont need each other it will be self loathing. A real free for all orgy.. Everyone will want a robot instead of the opposite sex. After all, they are faster, cheaper, safer, and they dont talk back..
Paul @ Jan 8th 2008 8:08AM

It doesn't get really scary until the robots start building robots.

i wonder how the poor college students in korea will be able to make quick bucks now. haha. it seemed to be a popular job for people desperate to make more money on the side.
leep @ Jan 8th 2008 1:13PM
It can be a real "Jungle" out there....
Andrew @ Jan 8th 2008 2:33PM
Because, you know, jobs aren't really that important, the fact that this will put millions out of work doesn't matter, cause your keeping a few bucks in the CEO's pockets.
Rich @ Jan 8th 2008 6:12PM
What happens when the robots don't pay their union dues and someone "kneecaps" them?
OneAboveAll @ Jan 9th 2008 10:39AM
Time to call Mega Man.
