By tipster popular demand, we present the
Razer Destructor gaming-grade surface (named after the Gigantiops Destructor genus of ants, for the myrmecologists among you). Granted that we can't conscionably recommend shelling out $39.99 for a mousepad unless it actually performs headshots for you, but if you've got a showdown with Fatal1ty in your future it could be up your alley. Optical gaming mice reportedly track 25% better on this thing, with gaming-grade laser mice getting a 37% tracking improvement through proximity to this surface. Co-developed with pro-gaming teams, the Destructor will be available for mission-critical fragging sometime this month.

If only I could upgrade my hand-eye coordination as well...

I was going to get an exactmat, guess I'll just wait for this. Thanks for the tip!

I have had an eXactMat for years and I must admit its absolutely brilliant. I dont know anything about "tracking improvements" on it, but my Copperhead practically glides across it.

dont get this crap, its over priced and probably will become like the ratpadz. get the icemat its much better and cheaper too (i got mine for 20$)

Is it hard surface, cloth, metal...?
I just picked up an Everglide GamingMat Cloth. So far, so good. Cloth FTW!

I forget the name, but I once spent $30 on a mousepad for my boss's office. If you spend a lot on a desk, a nice looking mousepad like this is a cheap investment. Sweat-discolored mousepads you get free at a tradeshow don't really make the same impression. It is also the nicest mousing I have ever experienced (makes me a little annoyed, since I would use it constantly, and it would take him over a week to realize if his mouse were unplugged). I bet this is worth every penny if you work in IT.

What makes these things so great?
I heard of an invention awhile back for mice called the silicon feet. They make the mice glide on pretty much any surface.

well most of these pads have 2 sides, smooth(for speed) and one with a bit more texture(for control). the pads are generally used to replace worn out teflon pads on your mouse.. since most manufacturers use teflon pads on their mice(mouses?) now. when the pads first came out, alot of mice still used plain plastic feet or a material that tended to disintegrate quite rapidly after 10 hours of game play a day by "pro" gamers.

I always liked the idea of the icemat. its so annoying that my frosted glass desk meant hell for tracking on mice, the icemat is a nice idea and would look better as a glass on glass thing, than a normal mousemat would.
this does look cool though.

Personally, the back of any matte folder does wonders for my optical tracking compared to my desk or any stupidly decorated mousepad. So I do believe these kind of things can help, but can't imagine a full 25% (nevermind almost 40%!) worth of improvement. Maybe I'm just not hardcore enough.

With the combination of a Razer Copperhead and a Func pad (forgot which one) and a little breeze will move the mouse across the pad. That's the point of these, it makes mouse movement so much smoother. For gaming and precision CAD/3D work.

I have 1 thing to say - Ratpadz XT. Proud owner for 6 months, still performs like it did the day I bought it, slicker than ice, and has actually improved my game. One of the best $25 I have ever spent.

For precision CAD, you don't want breezy movement of the mouse. You want the thing to be sturdy, so the natural vibrations of your hand doesn't cause jitter on the CAD's input screen. And, frankly, what the hell are you using a mouse for anyway? If you are hardcore CAD, you'll have hardcore digitizer pads (e.g., like the 11x16" Wacom tablets, but with pucks instead of pens), a sight with cross-hairs, optional magnification, and probably have pucks with more than 20 buttons on them, so you don't have to go back and forth to the keyboard.
