Verbatim introduces new lineup of Blu-ray media
We've already seen Verbatim crank out a few new pieces of HD DVD media, so it's only fair that red's rival gets a little updating, too. Among the newcomers are 4x BD-R, single-sided double-layer 2x BD-R / BD-RE, Mini BD-R / BD-RE and 1 - 2x BD-R LTH discs. Not a lot to say beyond that -- you know, considering the dearth of pricing information -- but you can expect 'em all to ship sometime during the first half of 2008.

That'll be nice, I hope my BWU-100A can burn those at full speed...
maybe a firmware update :)
but I wish they had some prices.
its just a shame that many players including sony's own Sony BDP-S300 does not support BD-R media so you will never be playing copies or home movies on this hardware!

READ BELOW SONY PDF: Operating Instructions:

and lookup "This player can play the following discs and files" and then look at "Examples of discs that the player cannot play" and you will see at the top BD-REs/BD-Rs, neither will it play DVD-RW, DVD-R film backups with stripped css or restructuring or without region coding!
Great informational post. Keep posting stuff like this - everybody should hear it. I seriously doubt the lack of compatibility with BD-R(E) media is due to a physical problem; I'd bet almost all I'm worth that this is due to firmware crippling on all counts. After all, playing a DVD minus the CSS takes less processing power than with the encryption.
Back in the DVD±R battles there were actual reasons certain drives could not read the other format, but Blu-ray is vertically integrated. Every player should play every disc. PERIOD. No matter if it's a personal backup or the real thing. Vote with your dollars, people - do not buy anything from this corporation ever again, until they either go out of business or change their ways.
Sony, are you listening? That deafening silence you hear is all the people stampeding to buy your crippled format.
Looks like i might be getting my blu ray burner by x-mas season this year...happy man i am
