CompUSA employees adopt subtle, dignified method of saying farewell
So you're about to be laid off by your megacorporation that thoroughly mismanaged its position in the market and is giving you the shaft because of it. What's a CompUSA employee to do? We'd say adding your own photos to LCD product shots on the online store is as good a way as any.

Witty, inventive, and difficult for the higher ups to ignore. I like.

Why is this comment low-ranked?! Did what's left of CompUSA management tag team negative click it?
Anyway, those CompUSA employees- bless their little hearts!
It's low-ranked because it's a double-post.
It's low ranked because it's a double post.
OIC, calling all Jacob Two Twos!
Where's the veronica belmont video?
This is about as funny as 'will it play doom' now. Amazing how quickly commenters can wear out a joke.
1...2...3...4...5...6...ok, 6 men... no, wait, what's that thing down there in the middle? hmmm..
hmmm after seeing these people's faces, I don't think I want to buy the product. Throw some good-looking people on there to entice me.
side note: at least I can put a face to the rage and hate I have for CompUsa (I worked there as my second job a decade ago). moronic mismanagement.
Nice, what can management do, fire them?
very true, themz some fugly people.
ENGADGET PROOF READ!! BLEARGH!!!
"as good a way as any" to do what?! That sentence doesn't make sense. Every third article usually contains a grammar or spelling error or just a silly omission. It's very frustrating. And it reflects poorly on Engadget.
To say goodbye... Cmon man, it's all about context. You read the title, then the blurb.
This is also how many newspapers are written.
Oops my bad, I guess I was a little too quick to hop on the grammar podium, but you can't deny that Engadget is embarrassingly riddled with easily caught errors.
There's even another example in this very article: "So you're about to be laid off by you megacorporation"
Funny, I have been pointing this out for months but its all falling on deaf ears. I do like the witty, conversational style with references that appeal to the 24 - 30 something crowd though, so I guess I'll have to overlook the obvious grammar/punctuation errors. The geeks in the science and math magnet program at my high school were never any good at English either.
That's not a good excuse. If you can't write, you shouldn't...y'know, write. Just a thought.
Why don't u idiots just put in a job appluhcashun for ingadjet as pruufreeders... seriously man who cares...
(intentionally mispelled)
You can't write....so don't even try? Moron. If you can't write, you PRACTICE!
Not if you're not good at it. You do something you are good at. I don't think Engadget's bad at writing, I just think they should proofread. I go to college, I don't have time to work for a blog and they're not exactly offering any openings. Besides I don't think they would hire a college student with no experience.
Who cares? Speed of information is more important for blogs than minor spelling/grammar issues and news accuracy. If these are more important to you, stop reading blogs and pick up a magazine with last month's news.
Nice, what can management do, fire them?
sorry for posting twice, there was an error the first time.
think the fish are getting laid off too?

How will the children eat?
Wow, not a very attractive bunch, is it?
I'm sure you're not very attractive either. They're regular everyday people losing their jobs - not models posing for a product shot.
I was offered and took a position at a CompUSA store not to many months ago with the promise of taking a Home Theater department and being given the resources to make it flourish. I've been in this game for a number of years but I've never had the opportunity to build a business like that. Well after around a month of looking at numbers, traffic patterns and business models it was painfully obvious this was coming. I got out a couple months before the closure was announced, but it was no surprise.
I hope they took a good handful of $29.99 USB cables on their way out the door.
Come on people...have a heart (and some empathy). These poor folks are about to lose their jobs and have to locate another income source to feed their families and all some of you have to talk about is their appearance. I hope their plight never happens to any of you. I do not think they are the reason why CompUSA is quitting business. And how many of you people who are posting about these poor people have whined about some article because of a lack of political correctness? Well he or she who lives in glass houses...and you are all smart enough to know the rest of the cliche...Engadget consists of great people keeping us all informed on the industry. Let's not lower the standards with posts like what I just read!
No one is blaming the employees for CompUSA's failure. The article in fact specifically blames the company being mismanaged and resulting in people like these getting screwed. So, because the company has no leverage to use against them and they have no reason to care about the company, they did something amusing on their way out.
What, they can't handle a simple image scale to get the picture to fit the monitor's screen? Ugh...
Hey, they are losing their jobs. Image scale is probably not a priority right now, ya think!
Classic.
Yanno what? All these comments about the looks of the people being laid off... come on, people, what the heck does that matter? They are human beings who have done nothing wrong and are being put through hell. Have some compassion. Your turn may be coming.
Speaking as one who had it happen, it's horrible. It's like coming home to find your supposedly faithful spouse of ten years in bed with your supposedly best friend -- and you had no idea. It turns your life upside down and inside out.
Remember, what goes around comes around.
Get a real job you f-cking losers!
Just so you know, the world doesn't work like that. Not everyone can have a "real job" so defined by you. I hope you can see the implications of everyone being a CEO...
ass-hat
You mean like your job as a stocker at Walmart?
Die in a fire, Frank.
You guys are bigger f-cking losers than the CompUSA rejects.
This chick was alot hotter.

Who is she? What's her name? Extension? Drool.
...or does she come with the monitor? =]
Is she unemployed now? I'd like to "hire" her.
hey the picture on this one makes me want to shell out the dough...does it come with the picture or any other part of the person?

donw here in florida tigerdirect has decided to purchase 16 florida stores and the right to keep the name compusa
Do you have any link to that?
I love TigerDirect (the egg looked better, but they are anti-international)... it would rock if they had actual stores (even under other names, as long as they have the same service as their web)
IIRC, it was Systemax, the owner of TigerDirect that purchased the stores, the name rights and the website.
