Dell 2408WFP in the works?
We've just spent some quality time with the latest in Dell's monitor lineup, but apparently, the Round Rock powerhouse has yet another in the family behind closed doors. Based on a Support page clearly showing display drivers for the 2408WFP, we've reason to believe a 24-inch version of the (presumably DisplayPort-equipped) LCD is at least in the works. 'Course, one can only speculate what features this critter will one day boast, but if you've somehow managed to snag one without anyone knowing, at least you've got drivers now, eh?[Via Gandhi V.]

Wow. A post about the possibility of the availability of a Dell monitor at some point in the future.
So exciting.
Snore.
When Engadget is good, they shine, but when they post idiotic articles on teh obvious, I tend to look down on them. So, by now, they are pretty low.
Don't get me wrong, everything doesn't need to be useless, but a little filtering would be better.

Seconded, I'm sure there is little doubt that there will be a 24" version this post speculating about it.....seems pointless.
I just wish they made a decent 20" non-widescreen LCD that didn't cost so damn much.
Sure, widescreen monitors are great, I've got a Dell 2405FPW, but having two of them side by side just isn't my cup of tea.
Pretty happy with my 2407WFP. No dice. Hopefully they made the menus/UI less atrocious, but I'm not gonna pay again for something they should have done right in the first place.
Can someone remind me what is so great about "display port"? None of the new graphics cards seem to support it, or any other device I've looked at recently. Why would I want to pay for it?
It's the newest display interface for computers. It has more available bandwidth, so think of higher resolution displays.
Within the next year you'll be seeing a lot of hardware with it. One cool feature: you can daisy chain displays. So, one cable from your computer to Monitor A.
The biggest advantages the DisplayPort has over HDMI is an extra bump in bandwidth and the ability to daisy-chain monitors together for multiple monitor setups.
Meh. BenQ FP241W - got component and HDMI (along with DVI, etc) on my very nice screen quality etc 24"er. Don't really want or need anything else.
Sure hope Dell will take a jump ahead and support multiple HDMI 1.3, X Y color (or whatever it is called), HDCP, DVI HDCP, D-Sub. Has anyone so far announced/released such a 24" monitor?
FYI, I just got a 2407WFP-HC and the stand has a box for the 2408WFP. It could hint at a release in the next weeks, especially as Dell names its monitors based on fiscal year and their 2008 F/Y ends on February 2nd.
The stand that came with my 2407FPW says on it that it supports 2408FPW, so I'm pretty sure that it's coming.
my 2407WP sucks for view pictures/movies.
it's awesome only for coding.
no matter what I do to adjust it, it's just terrible. pictures look solarized.
revaaron, I got a 2407WFP-HC last month and out of the box the "overdrive ghosting" was making me rather uncomfortable. I heard it's a lot better when calibrated but I didn't want to get a Spyder2/3 quite yet, but I was still able to get around the issue.
In the monitor's settings I went to Color Settings -> PC Custom Color, and dropped the Red, Green and Blue Adjust down to ~75. Then I set my Contrast to 85 to get my white level back up; Brightness to 20 to bring the black level down. That made my display usable.
Every screen is different so even if we had identical graphics cards we may need different settings, but the ballpark should help. If you work in a brighter environment (like under the sun) those settings might be too dark, but for the most part try not to blow out the whites.
Hrm, that's worrying. I was planning on getting a 2407wfp in the very near future to use with a laptop for coding but also for photo processing (from raw). What's the problems with the 2407? Might hold out for the 2408..
I need to send it in a get a new one
