Blu-ray's CES 2008 booth tour

Blu-ray's booth was a drastic change from their red neighbors; people were in line for swag, watching demos, playing with BD Live, and taking pictures with Homer and the huge pirate ship. We tried a little BD gaming as well, but we think we'll stick to just watching the movie. We did catch a glimpse of Panasonic's automotive Blu-ray player and 7-inch HD in dash display and let us tell you, we were impressed -- seriously you can see a difference even on a 7-inch screen.

What's BD Gaming? I thought of the PS3 at first, then it jumped to those gay memory games on DVD interfaces.
I hope these bluetards will soon see $3000 for player, $300 for movie ;-)
and maybe red-tards can learn to post a comment......
Bobby,
The only good thing about you posting your comment 3 times was that I could rank it down 3 times!
@ Bobby:
Right, just like only having one DVD format meant $3000 DVD players and $300 DVD movies.
Go Blu!!!
I think it's kind of awesome how the two sides competing were red and blue (er, blu?). I wonder how that happened. It's like Stratego. Or... well, anything.
I like to relate it to RVB... plus the HD-DVVD-DVDD-BVD from the gadget vid fits nicely.
if you haven't seen it:

Red vs. Blue in 2008... *ADD Democrat-Republican Joke*
it's okay, it happens to the best of us.
What is Homer eating? Blu-popcorn?
HD Popcorn.
HD Popcorn.
The Fat Lady has been singing the HD DVD song for some time now.

why weren't more people at HD-DVD? this is blush*t
(keepin it clean for the kiddies)
No chairs at the HD-DVD booth. Honestly, at CES, you get a crowd when you give stuff away and when you have places to sit. Seems fitting since the BOGO helped in retail so now the straigt up give away helps at the convention.
that was quick, the warner bros logo's are on all the advertising for blu ray, and how abouts do those blu ray games work, is it just ps3 games or something, it looked like people were using tv remotes to play?
Yeah, I also noticed the Warner logo already on there. Super quick. :)
Does anyone else see the Apple logo on the banner? I know it might be because they're on the BOD of Blu-Ray, but still, it could mean that Macs are getting Blu-Ray drives.

What that? Sry about the multiple posts. I'm at work and the proxy seem to now have issues with the blogsmithmedia.com domain? Has something changed on the Engadget/AOL side? Hum?
Okay, the double/triple post bug or whatever is getting a bit out of hand don't you think?
What double posting bug?
Who noticed the Apple logo on the overhead? Hmmmmmm
HMMMMM.....Maybe they let the news slip early before MacWorld.... Interesting.... Very Interesting....
Apple has ALWAYS been on the Blu-Ray consortium.... ike for a few years.
What double posting bug?
So.. The Crips Won?
If I were an Average Joe (which I'm not, I jumped on the Blu Ray bandwagon well over a year ago) and I were checking out HD-DVD and Blu Ray at CES, there is one obvious thing that would catch my attention and sway me towards Blu Ray. In my experience, most people have a brand preference.
In the Blu Ray booth you have players from Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, Samsung, Pioneer, Philips, LG, Mitsubishi, JVC, Denon, Marantz, and a bunch of other Korean/Chinese manufacturers.
On the HD-DVD side you have Toshiba, Venturer (who?) and a few hybrid players. So I guess if your brand is Toshiba, you're good to go. Otherwise, I would hate the lack of choice on the HD-DVD side. I guess the good thing is HD-DVD fans can always tout that HD-DVD has a finalized standard and that all players have the same standards. I mean really, how hard is it to be standard when there's only one manufacturer making them?
Anyways, just my thoughts if I was someone walking through the booths.
Isn't Microsoft still HDDVD?
Anyways, that's a nice booth, and since they have Homer, they have my vote.
Honestly, I think this format war is pointless. The jump from DVD to HD-DVD or Blu Ray is nowhere near the quality jump of VHS to DVD. Until DVD's start making my eyes bleed, I'll keep to my current format, thanks.
Also, I can't see any difference between HD-DVD and Blu Ray when I watch them side-by-side. So even if I did swap out my entire DVD collection for their hi-def counterparts, which one would I choose?
well, there are also some advantages to the way the new formats work, like separated sound tracks, better subtitle handling, etc, and the larger size of the disk allows for better sound, which is noticeable if you have a better system. Plus there's stuff like the BD interactive thing, etc, and finally I'd guess that the quality might be noticeable on some setups. Nothing I would feel compelled to switch over a previously existing collection for though.
Just in case you guys didn't know, the person being shown on the screen is Mahalo Daily's Veronica Belmont.
i'm pretty sure that's beyonce dude.
For those saying about the Apple logo... Apple has been in the blu-ray camp for quite some time. They are also members of the Blu-Ray Council.
Seriously? I just want affordable players (for now, sub $200 I guess) and movies. If BluRay won, so be it. Just don't jack the consumer in price now that the war's over.
look at the sign under THe Future is Blu there is an apple logo! New blu ray things for apple
This is the blu ray booth we want to see :

asian (sony) booth girls ... *sigh*
Is it me or is the Universal logo there below the Lionsgate Logo?
^^^^^
you are right
There is a apple symbol on the banner maybe that hints at what apple will come out with at macworld like a bluray drive for macs or something.
All I want is a sub 200.00 BD player from a Brand Name company.
Maybe Venturer will get into making Blu Ray players.
I can't wait until Blu-Ray wins this battle and moves in as the standard for watching a movie at home.
And I'm loving the idea of an in-dash Blu-Ray player. Way to go Panasonic!
I would kill...ok maybe not kill but maime some one to be at the CES, but that booth picture looks kinda boring, what time was it? 3am?
i know everyone is looking at the apple logo..nig surprise...but what about that universal logo next to warner..is that a typo? whats going on!
