Use real drums as Rock Band drum controller (how meta)
The Rock Band drum kit really feels more like the real thing than the toy guitars rocking gaming's world of late. So how deliciously meta is it that one enterprising chap decided to convert what appears to be a nice looking real drum kit into a Rock Band drum controller, so he can play a video game pretending to play drums using real drums. If you're not content with just upgrading your pedal to the real deal, and you'd rather not wait for the full replacement kit, consider turning the storage-lockered evidence of your failed college band into something you can be really proud of. Who knows, maybe one day you'll want to revert it back and put the band back together again.

HAHA... So if that guys a loser is the person that cracked the human Genome a loser i think not so shut the fuck up ladies
You could build of these for about $20.00 a piece. http://www.edrums.info/bucket_drum_2.htm
This guy's a effing loser.
Why? As a drummer myself, I think it's a pretty cool idea. Real drums have vastly better response than the Rock Band drum kit's solid pads do.
Only a total pussy drummer who idolizes Phil Collins would play cartoon drums on a TV.
@slayer
And what's wrong with Phil Collins, may I ask? I'm pretty sure that he's a much better drumer than you will ever be, considering that he actually had a multi-million career from his drumbing, and that's pretty hard to beat, isn't it?
And what does that have to do with playing on a TV anyway? If that's what he's got, why the hell is that YOUR problem?
I think it's a pretty cool idea too, Zak. When Rock Band came out I thought "finally, a music game that can actually train a real skill!" I think Rock Band drums are a great training tool. But I always thought Guitar Hero was dumb because the guitar was completely unrealistic, and it was exactly like playing a toy.
I think it would be awesome if someone would step up and make a realistic drum kit for Rock Band. With those whisper-quiet mesh heads and a more realistic layout (hi-hat in the proper position). I bet it would sell decently for a niche product. After all, people are making a good amount by selling rubber pads for the drums.
Now someone needs to adapt Rock Band for the PC ala "Frets on Fire".
This is completely tragic. Can I give this guy my home address so that if he ever feels the need to desecrate a good piece of musical equipment, he can just send it to me so I can actually use it?
What is with all the hate?
What is with all the hate?
go die hippy.
@slaytanic
What's with people on this thread relating to Slayer?
What's wrong with questioning people's hatred towards people just because they do something different from what you think is right?
And learn to spell, please. It's hippie, not hippy.
Mmmm. Meta. Now for a project that will convert a drum machine/sample, like the AKAI MPC2000, into a Rock Band controller.
This is asinine... i'd rather play my REAL drums, in my REAL progressive rock band...
if you don't believe me, www.myspace.com/theawakeningFL
hahahaha.
good luck with your band then. can you make your REAL drum set into a rock band controller? no. so shut the hell up.
and don't give me that "well i don't want to make my set into a controller" s*** because even if you wanted to...you couldn't.
this post is just saying what that guy did was cool. because it is. it's way cool.
That was close - I almost didn't believe you...
If that's your band, I have to say that's pretty good music you have on there.
It doesn't make very much of a difference if your band sucks, does it?
you guys are just ridiculous...So what the guy coverted the drums to a controller? The loser is the one that has no idea what they are talking about and belittles someone's creativeness....DRRR, jealousy maybe???
I, too am a drummer. This is not a big step. Triggers on drums have been around for a long time. DDrum makes a good trigger.
I wonder if someone will go buy a $2000 set to fit it with Rock Band triggers, though.
I am not knocking Rock band, but RB drums are different than actually playing drums. Would rather they stay seperate.
And if the Frets on Fire people decide to make a Rock Band version, I suggest they incorporate the left and right foot into the game. That would be cool.
but when you mod a real drum set to use in rock band...aren't you actually playing the drums? i've played rock band and to play the drums on expert takes a good amount of skill. you need to have rhythm and coordination, just like playing the drums. it's like having a keyboard that lights up and shows you what keys to press. it's not traditional...but you're still learning the fundementals of drumming.
i guess i'm failing to see the difference. guitar hero...i understand isn't the same...but the drumming on rock band? MUCH closer to the real thing.
Well, to practice to play the drums can be pretty boring... So I guess this is a way to make it interesting to practice if you aren´t good enough to play with others...
I, too, think that it is very near the real thing. I never actually played rock band, but it shure looks it. The other instuments however, are kind of pathetic... So you have one cool drummer, sitting in the middel of a couple of dushbags. I wouldn´t like it...
is "meta" the new slang? I stopped caring after people started saying "boi"
I think it's a very original thing to do, and although I don't quite see the point, if it brings more realistic action to the game, I don't see why so many people are arguing it being a bad idea. Personally, I think it's a good, and very creative use of the game.
I think one of the coolest things about Rock Band is that there are so many more people interested in taking the leap to playing real instruments to experiment. There's a new drum company launching in a few weeks called Dixon Drums and they're making high quality, aggresive drum sets on the cheap. If you ever wanted to be a drummer, nows a good time to make the leap. Check out www.myspace.com/dixondrum
