Rock Band Stage Kit with lights, smoke leaked by GameStop
As if playing Rock Band wasn't one of the greatest group gaming experiences to come along in years, it appears that a new accessory is set to amp up the fun even more by bringing an "interactive light and smoke stage show" to your already thrashing performances. Apparently you can already pre-order this so-called Rock Band Stage Kit from GameStop for 100 bucks, although they've since pulled the box image from the product page, so you'll have to rely on the screencap above to see what you're paying all that money for. Ships on June 23rd, according to the retailer's site, giving us plenty of time to install a proper stage and stadium seating in our game room.

If this works as promised, I wouldn't mind getting this for school functions.
I think this a pretty neat idea. I know my wife would roll her eyes if I told her about it, but she has been known to rock it out with me. It seems goofy, but that special kind of goofy that can be fun.
This seems like it would be far more suited to a DJ music game.
Oh well. That would be cool.
Beatmania didn't really blow American's socks off like GH did.
But it would be nice to have something like this for parties even if it's not just for Rock Band. Unless there is a patch that times when the fog and lights show in sync with what's going on with the backgrounds of the game, I wouldn't even consider getting this.
How about a mic stand?
13 dollars at guitar center
Cheap as at a music shop.
A Rock Band-branded one would no doubt be inflated to $50 somehow

How about releasing original hardware (guitar, drums, mic) that dont break instantly? Or how about releasing the game in a region other than North America?
Selling the game in other regions would net them more profit than spinning crappy add ons that (according to comments on this site) wont sell too well.
I don't see how they could not be synced with the music. Nobody would buy that.
I had been constantly mentioning to my friends how immersive Rock Band would be with stage lights, and I will likely be picking this up. I play it in the dark already on a projector with surround sound, so I think these will add a lot assuming they sync up with the music.
worst idea i've heard of in a long time. why? because this is quite an unnecessary accessory.
go to a damned concert.
I am going to pre-order this. I want interactive light and smoke with all of my games.
Especially games like pong, Pac-Man, and Duck Hunt...
Is it compatible with Guitar Hero III? I'll bet they crippled it.

While it's definitely overkill for the home... It would be great at a fund raiser or other small-medium sized event.
Where can I buy a second Rock Band guitar?
Guitars (and drum kits and mics for that matter) aren't available separately yet. I got my second one only because my original one had the crappy strum bar switches (leaf switches, rated for about 50k switches).
It stopped strumming right and they 2nd day air mailed me a replacement. I have 28 days to return the defective one that I fixed enough to play ok until I have to send it back. Hopefully by then they will be on sale and I can buy one.
man i just rocked out and got a million points on guitar hero.

If you play Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or heck even own a video game system over the age of 18 then you really need to purchase a gun and eat a bullet.
Every time those commercials come on the TV I want to shoot one of you dweebs.
@Ehud
WOW... Easy killer! Take a deep breath before you go take out a
school bus full of nuns.
@Ehud,
I totally agree. Playing video games is for complete losers. I mean, video games waste sooo much time.. time that could be spent on productive non-loser activities... like reading articles about video games that one doesn't even play and then commenting on them.
Playing video games losers and dweebs
Reading about video games totally awesome
btw thanks for reaching back to 1989 and dusting off the word "dweeb" for us. When I saw that I almost busted a zipper on my parachute pants, I laughed so hard. You're totally rad.
The irony is the ones claiming "This'll never get you laid" have clearly never left their house and played Guitar Hero or Rock Band at a real party.
Chicks dig Rock Band. I know it may sound like a weird concept. But try it. It works.
Only ugly girls like guys that play Guitar Hero. If anyone ever showed up at one of my parties with a video game I believe I would cram it up their ass.
Too bad there are hot chicks that dig playing Rock Band. Granted there is usually alochol involved, but they still do exist.
Either way, I'd much rather do a guy that plays Rock Band than an egotistical bastard that doesn't enjoy having fun.
@Lisa: Yes, but if you have hot chicks, at a party, there is probably going to be alcohol involved. Hell, if you have people at a party, there is probably going to be alcohol. :)
And I thought the "Sports Pack" add-on for the Wii was stupid. Just goes to show the old saying is still right. "A fool and his money are easily parted."
Next up... Synthetic bowls of coke, and blow up groupies.
This is so damn stupid. When I played in bands, the fog machine would leave a residue on stuff near it. So, in a closed space like your living room, I'm guessing it'll get on your couch, electronics, and more. Fun stuff.
I'm surprised that Mad Catz isn't making this.
Wow.. the Fire Department's going to just LOVE this add-on. A thousand f'ing phone calls per night of "smoke coming from my neighbor's apartment".
ri-goddamm-diculous
I think one of the coolest things about Rock Band is that there are so many more people interested in taking the leap to playing real instruments to experiment. There's a new drum company launching in a few weeks called Dixon Drums and they're making high quality sets on the cheap. If you ever wanted to be a drummer, nows a good time to make the leap.
