GM says its new Hummer HX concept is inspired by ATVs, not Halo
It sure didn't take long for folks to jump to conclusions about the inspiration behind GM's new Hummer HX concept vehicle but -- surprise, surprise -- the company's now denying that any such influence exists. According to GM design director Carl Zipfel, the HX wasn't modeled on Halo's Warthog but on "modern-day ATVs" -- even though he freely admits that both he and several of the vehicle's designers play Halo. Of course, it's entirely possible that they're just saying that now that they've realized they'd already been outdone by Chrysler in the subconscious Halo-imitation department.

How much does it cost? And Is it allready being sold in he states?
If it comes in "Warthog Green" with Silver Trim, i'd buy one :-P
Err, as long as it has 25mpg (realistic) or better that is :-P
Maybe they're also trying to keep from having to pay Microsoft any royalties. Anyone thought of that?
WHO CARES?
Seems how the Warthogs influence is also "modern day ATV's" then this is more of a chicken or egg debate.
riiiiiight...
It just looks to me like they ripped off the Toyota FJ.
Isuzu Amigo... Sure this is the beefier and more Macho version...
I whould buy the HX, assuming that it is line with their other products. I have a ustomized H2, but this would easily move my H2 to the classifieds...
M
It is really sad when GM is copying designs from a video game...now if that beast got 40+ MPG or higher I'd buy one.
Ha! Who am I kidding putting GM and 40+ MPG in the same sentence...
you cant say 40mpg and 'american car company' in the same sentence either
@austin My mother already gets 35mpg in her Impala. Quit spreading fud.
I'd say it looks more like the Agency SUV from Crackdown than a Warthog.
Thank you! I'm glad someone noticed it. Apart from the fact it doesn't morph based on our Vehicle Agent Level (which I'm sure we're all maxed out... I know I am... you know what to do Hummer!) I find it very difficult to think of the Halo Warthog when I look at this.
you people obviously havnt seen the jeep hurricane
Can we all agree on the fact that many cars (in game, out of game, on the street, off the street, etc) look alike? How many Hondas, Toyotas, and Kias have been mistaken for each other?
Does it come with Mjolnir armour?
you know, incase i come across any "hostiles" ?
I never understood how the name Mjollnir got attached to armor when it was originally a big freakin' hammer. Oh well, I suppose you're not supposed to think about it too much, eh?
it looks like a puma
It's a car not a feline
@pikachu guy
you fail. google halo puma.
It's a puma! :)
-Taylor
How about Chupathingy?
Dunno, I've never seen a car like that before... Looks like a, uh... Like a big cat of some kind.
...
...
What, like a Puma?
Yeah, man, there ya go.
I see more resemblance to the hardtop military hummers than a warthog. Either way it's still ugly as sin.
Forget being a video game ripoff, that's a total ripoff of the FJ Cruiser!
still looks like something we don't need. (yawn)
looks like someone took a dump on paper then drew wheels on it...
Way to hide the door hinges GM!
The doors come off. Thats why the hinges are not hidden, its so that you can get the doors off easier. I bet that you can just unbolt them off from the inside where the hinges mount to the front fenders.
it looks like a Jeep. But anyways its still going to be a plastic piece of crap
Vehicles are in concept years before being produced. If anything, Halo programmers probably talked to GM and got the concept from them.
Also, please get off the high-horse of having an efficient car. I want to car that I'll like to drive. If i like this beast, i should be able to have it. Gas is really cheap here in the US. Yes, it's more than it was 7 year ago (about $1.20 a gallon for me in Louisiana). But imagine paying $4 or $5 per liter. That's almost $10 a gallon. Any readers in Europe could verify this.
We also have more oil on this planet than we know what to do with. The last thing i want is golf car because i'm trying to save a planet that doesn't need saving.

So I take it that your scientific credentials on environmental issues surpasses those of the hundreds of Ph.D's that make up the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change? Or perhaps you authored your own report stating that man is not responsible for global climate change and the rest or the world just missed it?
Go read a scientific journal. The "global warming debate" is and has been over for some time now. And your position lost. Period.
Antifreeze is inexpensive and tastes oh so yummy. Please pick up this habit.

Just because you like it, doesn't mean it won't kill you.
More than half of the UN IPCC's scientists consistently protest the actually reports that are produced by the IPCC. The IPCC uses bureaucrats and non-scientists to write the summaries and the bulk of the report and often skew the results. All this is done for a political agenda and not in the name of science.
Please extend your scientific background beyond the IPCC (a political body). Most of the world's climatologist disagree on Human Made Global Warming and many Geologist don't see a near end to oil supplies.
reading to much "junkscience.com"? The scientists were actually protesting the redacting of some words and specifics on how bad the thing was. If anything, the politicians just made it seem LESS alarming, and more doubtful of human causes. If you read any science magazine or even blogs straight from scientists, you wouldn't be thinking "most" scientist experts think like that.
You don't have to read junkscience.com. It just reports on the surface.
You can go to real published journals of the former IPCC scientist over the last 10 years. You can read about their frustrations when they present data contrary to what the bureaucrats want to here. When they say things aren't bad they are let go and dismissed.
You need to understand that the political side about Global Warming has nothing to do with science and trying to "save the planet". It's about taxing.
I absolutely MUST HAVE ONE!
Anyone who's interested, here's a complete gallery of this rad concept:

I don't even get the Hummer concept. And why is anything that gets less than 50 mpg considered a breakthrough? 30 years ago we had cars that got 40 mpg. Hasn't anyone noticed we're going in the wrong direction?
Mainly because it's a heavy car and still gets good mileage. If you look at older cars that broke 40mpg they were usually diesel, or weighed significantly less than a 40mpg car does today. With modern safety requirements, most of those older cars wouldn't be allowed on the roads today. Just look at a VW Golf. Original model, 1800lb. Current model coupe 3100lb. Scale it up to an SUV. It's not MPG, it's MPG for its size/weight class.
i would ONLY buy this if it had a Gauss turret option.
Hummer makes one of the most efficient SUV's when looked at from dust to dust.
Don't believe me, read here:
http://www.caranddriver.com/dailyautoinsider/10871/doubts-cast-on-hybrid-efficiency.htm
I asked my wife for a Hummer for Christmas and she bought me an H3! Win Win I say.
This is a unclear study that consider the cost of production as part of the cost x miles.
Anyways, was done on several years where the oil barrel did cost fairly less that $100.
One ugly machine.
No. I'd say it's Halo.
