Apple adds five apps to the iPod touch -- for a price
It's not all love for the iPhone today -- Apple just announced that Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes and Weather are all coming to the iPod touch. New touch owners get 'em all for free, but all of you early adopters will have to cough up: the bundle is going to set you back a whopping $20. The new Maps app can't use cell-based location-finding like on the iPhone, but it can still figure out where it is using SkyHook's WiFi hotspot database. The touch also supports webclips and the reconfigurable home screen now, but we're a little unsure why all this has to cost $20 -- why no love, Apple?

Hey wait there is more. I was one of the suckers that paid $20. Guess what after 2 days of customer support I realized it would not install in MANUALLY MANAGE mode. Looks Apple wants you to SYNCH your full library to make sure everyone has legit copies of their music on their PCs on this upgrade or your gona loose your music. BEWARE
Wow, do you guys realize how cheap you sound when you complain about $20....Get a job and shut up. Apple develops an amazing revolutionary product and wants to make some money of it and its customers just complain about every little thing. Its pathetic, stop crying and stop being so cheap. Thanks Apple, $20 is more than fair. Can't wait for the next major software bundle release, I already have the my next $20 saved up.
It doesn't make sense to me. I can understand maybe $5 covering the costs for SkyHook servicing, but where's the other $15 going? Give us a break on this one.
For those of you who are outraged over Apples greedy slap in the face to its early adopters of first generation products, and there are many of you, let them know. This is not about being cheap, it's about principle. It is simply outrageous that those who purchased early have to pay for something that others will get for free from now on. We're not talking about a new piece of hardware - we're talking about a download that should be free for anyone who owns an iPod touch. If you're angry make your voice heard.

If enough people make noise they might just go into damage control mode and do the right thing. Let others know...post the links everywhere you can think to.
Let's hope something doesn't just magically break my iTouch so that I have to trade it in for the new version.. *sinister laugh*
I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again now: You get what you paid for, which in this case is a closed-system of money-mongering cashwhores. What else did you think a company who charges $2000 dollars for a $1200 laptop would do? Give stuff away for free?? Yeah....right.
Let's see...Apple charged $129 to upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 (Jaguar), then another $129 to upgrade to 10.3 (Panther), another $129 to upgrade to 10.4 (Tiger), and finally another $129 to upgrade to 10.5 (Leopard).
That means if you owned a G4 or G5 and had actually updated OS X with the latest versions each time you would have spent $516 since OS X came out.
Really, Apple obviously expects you to thank them for ONLY charging you $20 for these 4 apps! And so far firmware upgrades have been FREE for the iPhone.
Seriously, I can only assume that Steve expects iPod Touch owners to write him thank you notes for only charging $20 for such great new features.
I bought a touch the day AFTER Apple's announcement, and I STILL had to pay for the upgrade. Frankly, I smell rotten Apples in this. What about users in countries without iTunes music stores? How will they upgrade? Apple seems to have thought this one out without using their brains or just shooting loyal customers in the foot.
