The breakthrough feature is "instant on", a feature we could have had months ago in a less cool device:
Instant-on Apple MacBook Air: $3000
Instant-on Palm Foleo: $499

This is form over function taken to an extreme.
And the batery. Damn. LOL. What if you want to use an extneral mouse AND a usb ethernet adapter? Becuase ya know, touchpads blow, "multi" or otherwise. Oh, a BT mouse would do I guess.
No. This thing is just sex. The pretty people at whorebucks will want them. So they can continue to look pretty.
I would rather buy the Sony TZ or SZ... The tz weighs less but has a highly useful OPTICAL drive. How could they not include this? The SZ is only a pound more but has nifty DISCRETE graphics. Where does this fit in?
I think we can all agree... don't buy any mac product right away. Wait until Apple releases updates and fixes the products, making the product how it SHOULD have been.
NOw here's where a few of you nerds respond.
"Well, bill... you know, it's mac users and buyers that make the updates possible.. blah blah blah." Then you push up your nerd glasses cause they're falling off your greasy nose.
I love Apple products. Too bad they never get it right the first time. 3 G's on a little notebook? Even 1700 is TOO steep. With Sam's cut it adds to that amount. Then you need to buy the corresponding wireless software. The average consumer doesn't have that kind of money. Shoot, the average consumer doesn't have money anyway right? Good ol American credit. Yee haw!
P.S. Notice how not even hardcore Mac fans applauded everything Jobs said, like they ususally do.
P.S.S Notice how most of the audience members looked like young Bill Gates'?
All they need to do to blend this thing is snap it in half and put it in, like a banana.
I want a new version Apple!! That could replay the battery and look at the remaining battery info like MB & MBP!!!
Where's the video out??
How to do presentations on this thing??
price is 1800$
I can't help remembering what Randy Newman said at the end of the Keynote yesterday: "I was in Europe a year ago, and I noticed they didn't like us very much..." No wonder! the MacBook Air (as many other Apple products) is 33% more expensive in Europe; with VAT charges of only 15-17% that rip-off is rather hard to justify, isn't it?
Just wait 1 or 2 months. Jobs will lower the price about a grand and offer any early purchasers a $50 credit at the Apple store :)
Everything I see just makes me want this thing even more. I am gonna follow the guide at http://www.Free-Macbook-Air.com to get a free one and I should have it in 3 weeks or so.
Despite what people are saying, this is quite a unique computer. it is a normal sized, and near-normal-powered ultra portable. Small-form factor ultra portables may seem very desirable for a travelling worker (which is the market for this machine), but they are a bit bloody useless to do any real work on - you can do it, but it is a severe compromise!!! On the other hand, I've lugged 15" Dells, and a 17" Macbook Pro to different countries, and I would have killed for this computer. People complained when macs started coming out without parallel and serial ports, and floppy drives - they look pretty stupid now. As for a DVD - I hardly ever use one anymore - we use usb and networks to do most installs at work. I think Apple have accurately summed up the future of computing - most people just don't realise it yet. The battery issue is the only real flaw that I see - some people really do need 10+hours of battery life... but for the majority - 5 hours will be heaps.

What in the bloody kangaroo are you talking about? Sony and Toshiba and the Macbook compromise on what, now? This seems like an Apple employee talking.
Don't mind a single USB port too much because I always have a hub with me to use on a three port laptop. Now, even though I've never used a FireWire device, that's one reason I want a Mac. Sure, I have a 4-pin, but I want something that's powered, and wouldn't mind having an 800 as well. But as far as ethernet goes, why couldn't they have chosen an X-JACK-like form factor. I use wireless all the time, but my school doesn't know how to place routers; however, there is Ethernet in every room. I would have liked gigabit ethernet. By the way, the built-in battery isn't a huge deal. As long as a store can do it, it's fine. And don't you people know of a little thing called USB batteries? What about SeatGuru? Quit whining.
