Apple store is down -- say it ain't so!
Just in case you had the slightest fear that ole Steve wouldn't be introducing something worth updating the Apple store over, well, consider that fear squashed. Yep, the e-doors to the online Apple store are indeed closed, and we're betting they'll remain tightly sealed until that "one more thing" is unveiled.

Can I ask a question: will Jobs' keynote be live on apple.com? The Apple home page seems to say so.
Dextro @ Jan 15th 2008 9:35AM
No, they say afternoon. So that's the recorded version
pquistgard @ Jan 15th 2008 9:39AM
Well, at least we'll enjoy Engadget's live blogging! Much appreciated Ryan.
LegendZ28 @ Jan 15th 2008 11:07AM
I still can't figure out why they (Apple) don't just stream the thing live, it's a little silly.
pquistgard @ Jan 15th 2008 11:29AM
They probably want to make it a "perfect product" before they put it on their website. JUST in case.
Whereas Gates said it himself: they put out products which are not necessarily ready for market. Go figure I guess.
BrianB @ Jan 15th 2008 9:38AM
Go Engadget! But hold the pranks.
Juice @ Jan 15th 2008 11:19AM
I thought the TV-BGONE pranks done by Gizmodo were a lil out of line. But for some reason if they did it to Steve Jobs at his precious Macworld I'd be fine with it. :D
jmkm @ Jan 15th 2008 9:40AM
yay! this is a great day!
Besna @ Jan 15th 2008 9:45AM
Fun, fun. The air has 3G, WiMax, Wifi. No ports except power. SSD in powers of 2 (32, 64 options). Custom docking station with USB as well as portable USB adapter (firewire too). 16GB iPhone 3G. No bluray anywhere (or HDDVD for that matter). Mark the date!
Drew @ Jan 15th 2008 9:50AM
16gb iPhone 3g? Unless it's available today, that will cannibalize the hell out of iPhone sales. I plan on buying one today actually, provided he doesn't announce anything like a 3g iPhone. If he does, I'm holding off as will just about everyone else out there.
Seth Porter @ Jan 15th 2008 10:14AM
If steve announces a 3g iphone, i'm selling my iphone as soon as the new one is available and i'm upgrading. Edge is getting to be quite painful. Also, i'm guessing the SDK will go live today as well as that sick new firmware 1.1.3 that has location-based google maps and icon-rearranging.
Majortom1981 @ Jan 15th 2008 10:28AM
Wow you guys must be lucky here in suffolk county on long island there is one narrow strip of 3g coverage so a 3g ipho ne wont do me anygood since i dont get it here in the first place.
LegendZ28 @ Jan 15th 2008 11:11AM
How're you gonna dock a device that has no ports except for power?
Brandon @ Jan 15th 2008 9:46AM
One More Thing...Apple is re-inventing green technology.
greenpieceblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/apples-green-up-at-macworld.html
majortom @ Jan 15th 2008 10:45AM
reinventing green? How? By definition the computer industry is very non green.
Kris @ Jan 15th 2008 9:48AM
I never got that. Wouldn't it drum up more excitement if they had it live?
Ryan @ Jan 15th 2008 9:53AM
It would piss off more people because the bandwidth usage would be off the charts making it unwatchable
Chicksta @ Jan 15th 2008 10:04AM
They used to have it live, but it wasn't terribly cost effective to do, and they probably figured it'd help boost show attendance by delaying the broadcast.
PDubNYC @ Jan 15th 2008 10:05AM
They've done it numerous times before, without any real problems, despite what ryan says. I really wish they would do so again. It's painful "watching" the thing thru blogs
Kris @ Jan 15th 2008 10:06AM
ah...true. All the same, I can't wait for the live updates :)
Mike @ Jan 15th 2008 10:53AM
plus it kinda pisses off all the people that paid money to goto the event
JohnPQ @ Jan 15th 2008 9:50AM
Yeppie.... more overpriced stuff coming! Eyes roll...
Austin @ Jan 15th 2008 9:50AM
It's like Christmas.
gayu @ Jan 15th 2008 9:54AM
will then start selling the new macbook air today. there is one more website doing live coverage www.live.techztalk.com

In case you were being serious, that page is (more or less) their 404 error. It displays when there is no page to be displayed.
For instance: http://store.apple.com/Steve+Jobs+Is+A+Communist.html

Notice the difference between the two graphics:
http://images.apple.com/r/store/backsoon/title_backsoon.gif (usually)
http://images.apple.com/r/store/backsoon/title_backsoon1.gif (now)
Looks like it'll be closed until the keynote is over, as predicted.
Macbook air @ Jan 15th 2008 10:18AM
Not spamming. Just started an air fan club. Nothing more nothing less.
spyder91 @ Jan 15th 2008 11:35AM
You don't even know what you're a "fan" of yet.
spyder91 @ Jan 15th 2008 11:38AM
You started a "fan" club for something you've never seen?

Hmmm, the be back soon graphic is actually 564px wide, and not 516px as specified in the source.
Raheem @ Jan 15th 2008 10:23AM
Holy crap they've built a pixel deceiver tool for MacBooks!!! Tee hee.
eric @ Jan 15th 2008 10:58AM
They use html to scale images all over the apple site. It's very ugly and I have no idea why they do it. They are supposed to be a bastion of quality, but they use an ugly jagged-edge-producing image scaling technique for their site? Totally weird to me.
Hax Or @ Jan 15th 2008 10:23AM
Final prediction: Mac will fully embrace Microsoft.
Then the kisses start.

Virtually all of iTunes DRM-free? Well, not that it matters as I have Amazon and eMusic, but it would still be cool.
slug @ Jan 15th 2008 10:47AM
