According a message purportedly sent from a Lenovo rep to resellers today, Intel's T9500, T9300, T8300 and T8100
Penryn chips are going to be delayed, affecting the laptop industry worldwide -- and obviously
Lenovo's latest in particular. The word is that a thermal sensor issue is to blame, and supply on the chips will be tight through February. Nothing official from Intel yet on the matter, so we're going to keep this in the rumor category for the moment -- but don't be surprised when that shiny new Penryn laptop of yours ends up taking a few extra weeks. Be strong, we can make it through this together.

I'm pretty sure the Macbook Air uses a custom-design chip that is much smaller than the 'normal' Penryn, so I don't think Apple are to blame!
Fatima @ Jan 15th 2008 5:19AM
Thats not going to be good for Macbook Air.
Herman @ Jan 15th 2008 5:26AM
Unless Apple is the reason for the shortage.
Liam @ Jan 15th 2008 5:30AM
What Herman said. Apple may have ordered large quantities of said chips, and like the relationship with flash provider samsung, they probably get priority, especially for a major new release. It's good publicity for intel too, let's not forget (even if they don't get to plaster the thing with stickers).

Apple gets top priority over the rest of the junkers, so I doubt if Apple is suffering from chip delays.
Kamokazi @ Jan 15th 2008 11:13AM
Yes, of course Apple has priority over other hardware companies with 3-4x the purchasing power they do. /rolleyes
It's okay, I know you're all affected by the Jobs Reality Distortion Field right now this close to the MacWorld keynote.
I am sure Apple does have *some* stronger pull than *some* larger companies thanks to whatever contract they have with Intel, but Intel is sure as hell going to keep bigger companies like HP happy who have no trouble buying AMD chips. Which could bring up a point as to why this originated from Lenovo...they're further down on the totem pole than HP, Dell, and Apple.

I so hope this "air" thing is a wimax air-port or something.
Dan @ Jan 15th 2008 6:16AM
apple truly has consumed the whole blog...
Jack @ Jan 15th 2008 7:23AM
next comment will say "I hope they release a 3G iphone and a 16Gb Ipod Touch"
NathanG @ Jan 15th 2008 8:27AM
I hope they release a 3G iphone and a 16Gb Ipod Touch
Josh* @ Jan 20th 2008 12:53AM
We ALREADY HAVE 16GB iPod touch lol
shawn.zenz @ Jan 15th 2008 9:32AM
I bet they are purposely delayed, being that they have no competition anymore...
Josh* @ Jan 20th 2008 12:57AM
@Fatima - What's MacBook Air got to do with Penryn chips? Shouldn't affect it at all.
