Sirius Stiletto users stuck a day behind everyone else
While most seem to have learned from past date-related issues, at least some folks at Sirius appear to have overlooked the fact that this year is a leap year, and the company's Stiletto 100 unit is now having trouble keeping up as a result. As numerous users have reported in the Sirius Backstage forums, the Stiletto has been dragging a day behind ever since the New Year kicked in, which, in addition to being an annoyance, has posed some serious problems for anyone doing scheduled recordings. Now, after a bit of silence on the matter, Sirius is reportedly telling customers that there is in fact a problem, and that it'll fix itself on March 1st. Unfortunately, Sirius's only "solution" in the meantime is to tell users to set up recordings for each day of the week.[Thanks, Bill]

As much as I love Sirius, they've kind of ticked me off lately. I had a unit stolen, and they do nothing if someone tries to re-activate it. I also had a faulty Sportster 4, I got a new unit, and the faulty one continues to receive music. So now that makes me think the one that got stolen is probably still working without subscription.

The old radio will stay active for a few weeks. Sirius sends out a master signal once a month that disables cancelled radios.
Evan @ Jan 15th 2008 8:36PM
Now thats standing behind your product!
Jonathan @ Jan 15th 2008 9:04PM
OH YEAH!
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Jan 15th 2008 9:07PM
Is that assuming the radio is on to receive that signal? If the radio is off, will it then continue to work uninterrupted?
Chris @ Jan 15th 2008 9:11PM
It will update the next time it's turned on and will not work.

@ Chris
Thanks for the info!

Somewhere in the world a poor programmer just cursed very loudly.
crow610 @ Jan 16th 2008 12:57AM
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The leap year program is probably one that every programmer does when he/she starts to learn how to program!
right after printf("hello, world");
printf("Sirus programmers suck");
sitruc @ Jan 15th 2008 9:22PM
Is that March 1 or March 2?
nilram @ Jan 15th 2008 9:32PM
Sorry, this is just lame. It's not like dealing with the leap year is "high tech" anymore.

One good thing about the Stiletto is when Sirius finds a solution they will send an firmware update via WiFi.
me_rubin @ Jan 15th 2008 10:20PM
Well last spring they could not get DST right, now they can't get Leap year.
superrrguy @ Jan 15th 2008 10:21PM
Every response I've ever gotten from Sirius has been. "That's the way it works, there's nothing we can do." This is unacceptable.
I'd love to have access to more channels but I think if Sirius and XM merge, the new company really won't care about their customers and I'm kind of scared I'd lose some of the channels I listen to now.
Regular radio sucks and using your own mp3 player requires a little planning ahead. I love being able to record a 6 hour block of Boom Box or Chill and listen later on the subway. Without a competing satellite radio company, the service will only get worse.
One more thing. Why is there no firmware upgrade to match the Stiletto 100 to the Stiletto 2? Evil bastards!
George Kirkaldie @ Jan 16th 2008 12:12AM
So, let me get this straight, the unit is having troubles because it's a leap year? And yet it's still January. What will happen on the 29th? Did the unit start the year off on the 2nd?
Alareth @ Jan 16th 2008 1:58AM
The units, which also includes the Stiletto 10 as well, date wise are 1 day behind. ie: On Wed the 16th it thinks it's Tue the 15th.
Basically instead of fixing the problem with a software patch, Sirius has decided to just wait until March 1st when the problem should theoretically solve itself.
crow610 @ Jan 16th 2008 1:01AM
I wonder if their products are Y2K complient
Sirocco @ Jan 16th 2008 2:28AM
Is that the leap year? I thought it was my "irritable bowel syndrome".
Jon @ Jan 16th 2008 9:55AM
The worse part for me is that this bug came two weeks after I upgraded from an S50 to an Stiletto 100. The S50 was horribly buggy, and Sirius hardly ever fixed bugs, and pretty much abandoned the product a few months after it was released. It finally died after less than two years of use. Now they're doing the same thing to the Stiletto 100. I might as well just get a tattoo that says "SUCKER" and be done with it....
uberfu @ Jan 16th 2008 10:45AM
Except that this doesn't make much since as the turn of the year - because the actual "leap day" recognized - has not actually occured yet_
Scooter @ Jan 16th 2008 10:45PM
Why would the calendar be off a day now? Shouldn't the author confirm his report before posting?
I have a stiletto 100 and the date is correct as of today. I would assume it would lose track of 1 day when February 29th occurs and the radio will think it is March 1st, if there is no software update by then. Much like many people's good old analog manually operated day/date watches.

This issue is now resolved!
