Lumenlab's Qmax PC-in-a-TV gets detailed, $10000 price tag
Last October, not much was known about Lumenlab's elusive "Q," but now it seems the firm's all geared up to dish out the deets and accept obscenely large checks. The Qmax still maintains a 42-inch 1080p LCD display, but we now know that you'll find an overclocked Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor (humming along at 3.3GHz), 768MB GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics card by PNY (also overclocked), 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a trio of 1TB hard drives, the company's own Hotwire powerline networking technology, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and a fairly swank cooling system for good measure. Additionally, you'll find HDMI, component and VGA inputs, 8.1-channel audio, optional HD DVD / Blu-ray drives and an optional $1,500 touch screen for those with plenty of cash to burn. Reportedly, this beast is handmade in Asheville, North Carolina and can be tweaked to your heart's content, but the general configuration will set you back around $10,000. The only question left, it seems, is why?

Or... You can get a 50" plasma, hook up a pc with better specs for less.
Why? It seems nicer to have integrated to one unit - at an additional cost.

"The only question left, it seems, is why?"
Sorry, but there's one more question left:
Will it blend?
Dale @ Jan 17th 2008 4:32PM
Do douche bags blend?
Digital1 @ Jan 17th 2008 4:38PM
Does it play Doom?
z3r0D @ Jan 17th 2008 5:17PM
Does it cost the GDP of small nations?
Zach @ Jan 17th 2008 10:39PM
multiple GDPs..
on another note i did call this out on a post previously about that super hd 22.1 channel set they posted..
i asked why hasn't anyone done this yet, but this seems like overkill
4 gigs of ram? it isn't even nearly standard, and with the way 32 bit OS's are still more common, its pretty much useless
and honestly, how many programs need to be left open for enough days to leak enough memory to fill the 3 and a quarter that are available?
if they would make a 3000$ (or less/customizable..) tv with 1200$ pc specs (or even less like i said just before) i am fairly confident they would make a SERIOUS pile of cash
any takers?

I'd bet you could buy John de Lancie for $10,000.

The Apple Lisa (without his Steveness) proved that $10K for a computer won't fly, this won't either. Integration is nice and all but so is flexibility.
Jinx @ Jan 17th 2008 4:26PM
Now if they could get that all to fit in the new SLIM LCD TV's, you've got yourself a deal!
MrFuNKy76 @ Jan 17th 2008 4:28PM
YA!
pagercam @ Jan 17th 2008 4:30PM
I like how they include a quantity selector that goes up to 50, for those of us that have a spare 1/2 million burning a hole in our pockets (must be some pretty big pockets).
Perry Barnoy @ Jan 17th 2008 4:34PM
Why not?
I would snag one of these if I had 10k to spare.
Jinx @ Jan 17th 2008 4:39PM
"White glove delivery included"
Hell yeah! I get a white glove too!
yeah yeah.. sarcasm...
Bryan @ Jan 17th 2008 4:36PM
"The only question left, it seems, is why?"
The answer for those who buy it; "Because I can."
DT @ Jan 17th 2008 4:39PM
Quicktime?
Teetdogs @ Jan 17th 2008 5:13PM
All i can say is *drool* this is bad ass and if I had 10 grand just laying around I would totally pick one up, this would be the best media center ever.
Jesse S @ Jan 17th 2008 5:30PM
It's a snobs media center remote!
david @ Jan 17th 2008 11:00PM
That'd be pretty sweet, you could store 80-100 HD movies IN your TV (of course, don't ask me how you'd rip them to the hard drives).
captain underpants and the bringdown gang @ Jan 17th 2008 5:38PM
can it fit in a manila folder?
thethirdmoose @ Jan 17th 2008 5:43PM
The touchscreen sounds nice though...
JD @ Jan 17th 2008 5:47PM
Seriously, I wouldn't pay $20 for that thing. Why, not because it doesn't sound great, but because they are a bunch of crooks. They "designed" (resold an off-shelf pos) a "commercial" projector that was basically a flop and did not meet the specs or perform as it should, then made promises to those who bought their piece of crap projector that they would make good on at least some trivial features... then just quit worrying about the projector and left their customers high and dry. $10,000 is a lot of money to be left high and dry with nothing but an underperforming piece of junk... not worth the risk.
Macha88 @ Jan 18th 2008 9:58PM
Now only 19.99
We'll send you a lifetime supply! just pay s+h
Kenneth Lawson @ Jan 17th 2008 7:22PM
While I like the general concept, I have several issues; . upgradeable, adding usb add-ons, if you have to replace a hard drive can you get to it,,ect...
Sumsa @ Jan 18th 2008 3:36AM
There´s a company in Germany (for those non US-people) which incorporates Mac Minis in Flatscreens; this way you can have Windows/Linux/Mac at the same time. And they look better than this "Q".

8.1? Is it new, are there any 8.1 speakers? (I'm off-topic with that one, maybe there really is)
Why on Earth would anyone pay $ 10k for this?
The specs are super but it can be built for MUCH LESS THAN 10k.
Also, there's nothing like building your own PC with all the components that you buy seperately.
Are they gaining 300% profit or what?
In four years this will become a below-average device.. who would REALLY consider this? I hope this is a limited edition or something.
