The Nuvi 5000 is listed as having a 0 hrs battery life? That's not too good. Maybe that means it just plugs in to the lighter and has no battery? Or is it a typo??
Apparently it doesn't have an internal battery, so you need an external power source. The picture used here has a battery life indicator, but it must not be the model described.
