White PS3 now approved for Stateside use

The FCC just approved the 40GB Ceramic White PS3 for US consumption. It's apparently the same model announced for Japan back in October. Perfect for the living room laboratory if ever released this side of the Pacific.

Depends on when they're going to get their AAA titles out and whether or not those titles end up sucking or not.
Add in the fact that there is no BC whatsoever, and you have a pretty shitty console- for the time being, at least.

Well they probably have to approve that the paint/die isn't toxic. But they have probably made some changes to the inside to cut costs, which will be rolled out with all new PS3s at the same time as the white launches.
These are all speculation of course.
I'd bet that it's a standard 40 GB under the hood, actually. Sony produces specialty color versions of all its consoles, but the differences are purely cosmetic.
Though, if they include the DualShock 3, that would be a big change.

Hit me up when it's AAA titles are out, because right now, there isn't much justifying even a four hundred dollar purchase, especially since it has not backwards compatibility.
If you don't care at all about HD movies, or have an HDTV set, then yah, I would agree. But it's the best Blu-ray player available right now, and even if have any interest in games then that cost is split more to both sides.
There are plenty of Sony first and second party games out there to carry one well into 2008, when more titles get released.

damn, I wish I had a couple white controllers. But considering it's part of my theater setup as I don't feel like wasting money on a 2nd blu ray player, I'll be sticking with a black console.

I dont think i'd trade in my 60gb model for this, but I'd really love to find a way to change the enclosure of my ps3 to get rid of the horrid chrome.
you're one of the lucky persons to get the original PS3 which has full BC.
I dunno, I've played 1 ps2 game for 10 minutes since getting the ps3. BC is a bit overrated; its good if you really want/need it but I use my ps3 for bluray/upscaling dvds more.

Hell yes. I've been holding out on getting one. Maybe this will come out at the new rumored $300 price! Then all my consoles will be in matching white :)
