Gizmondo to rise again in 2008?

Oh cruel, cruel word... is it true? A teaser site for Gizmondo just appeared in the fetid bowels of the Internets boasting that the "legend is reborn." A cruel hoax or has Stefan Eriksson, freshly sprung from the clink, really teamed up with former accomplice Carl Freer in a bid to resurrect Gizmondo as the Swedish press claims? If true, the service is set for a Christmas 2008 launch with the promise of a "Gizmondo Live Marketplace" presumably chock-full of open source games running on a supposed $100 device. Will it really "democratize gaming?" Hardly. No worries though, we'll be too busy checking out the "exciting psychic worlds" to notice.
Update: Ha, Gizmondo spared no expense with the teaser -- it's all yours for just $66 bucks over at TemplateMonster.

No doubt there will be many willing investors lining up to finance Fat Stef's new business. Investors are real smart like that.
I don't know. The original handheld was promising. If Eriksson and his Swedish mob are no longer with the company, I think it could have potential. I own both a GP2X and a PSP, and I'm interested to see what this new device has to offer.

the Gizmondo actually ran on PDA hardware including an nVIDIA GoForce GPU, so I don't know how expensive it will be to make

There is no space in the marketplace for the Gizmondo. Its time has passed. Had they released it way back when the PSPandDS were first released on US Markets, the Giz might have had a chance. Now thePSP has matured into its games and accessories - the NintendoDS is kicking ass in sales and the GBoy SP still remains out there as a low cost portable gaming toy.
The Gizmondo has absolutely nothing to bring to the market.
Its absolutely a powerful device, (more so than the psp) and if it offers games via a internet connection (like xbox live) than it could have its followers....
Competition is never a bad thing.
Sounds like you'd be the perfect investor! Care to put up a couple mil for a new Enz...er, some seed money?

This is just another chance for Mr Eriksson to raise enough cash from investors so he can buy a new Bugatti Veyron and crash it while racing. Of course, it'll be "Dirk" driving again :)

Not sure where Gizmondo first started... but according to this whois lookup there offices are located in Scottsdale, Arizona. But it does appear that they registered it on 1/2/2008

Wow, their little teaser was really well done. All fancy with "swoosh" sounds. However, I could have sworn I've seen that very same flash movie somewhere else...
Oh yeah, now I remember! It's a $66 flash template from Template Monster, looks like they're going all out for their comeback!

Well, at least it shows fiscal responsibility. If they're not blowing all their cash on premature advertising, perhaps they can keep costs down and launch a decent product at a decent price. You never know...
