Fujifilm's FinePix S8100fd brings 10 megapixels 18x close
Big and long is how Fujifilm's FinePix S8100fd rolls. We're talking a 1/2.3-inch Super CCD HR sensor with dual image stabilization (sensor-shift and digital image) with a burst-rate of 33, 3 megapixel frames at 13.5fps. Your $399 also brings 10-face auto detection, Fujifilm's iFlash to avoid overpowering shots, and a VGA movie mode shooting at 30fps. Available March.

I WANT IT!

I have the s8000fd and although the optical "zoom" (zoom is actually simply the quotient of the max and min focal lengths thus one 18x camera may have a different magnification than another) is very useful it's auto mode doesn't work well, requires a lot of switching between modes and tweaking aperture, shutter speed, and ISO levels (the 6400 is very grainy and 64 is least grainy). I've found it excellent for nature photography but awful for photographing people - awful party camera. I'd also like to point out a couple quirks: I have an 8gb SDHC card and because it uses a fat32 file-system max fil-esize is 2gb or roughly 30 min of it's surprisingly good vga video; also the camera is detected by Windows as a scanner instead of a mass storage device so be sure to use a card reader instead of the micro-usb cable. Additionally I've found the new Duracell pre-charged "NiHM-2" batteries are much more useful in it than the old NiHM AAs (standby time is supposedly 1 year instead of the 2 days I get out of the old ones). Still a nice upgrade from my Olympus D-560Z that died.

I have used Fuji Finepix for the last 5 years. Great cameras. This is a step away from an SLR. I now have a new camera to look for.

So guys, what's the main difference between this and a DSLR? I am looking for a new camera for my B-Day, and this one seems nice...Any input?
