iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak goes live, update: it works!
Those of you torn between having an SNES emulator and vibrating icons need worry no more -- a team of iPhone hackers led by the illustrious Nate True has just posted an iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak. There are some hacker politics between the iPhone Dev Team and Nate involved, and the jailbreak is currently only for Windows users with previously-jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhones, but it's still sweet, sweet freedom. We're busy getting it up on one of our iPhones here at Engadget HQ, we'll let you know all the gory details when we're done.

Update: We tested it to a spec jailbroken 1.1.2 phone, as the app requested -- it works alright.
Update 2: Now available for Mac-heads.

This is not a real jailbreak. I'll wait for the real one, not a buggy one like this and eventually the one that will update my baseband, so that I can use Google LocateMe feature. Also from Nate's blog;
"What's this I hear about you getting kicked from the Dev Team?
- It's true. I jumped the gun and released before getting approval from the team. So now I'm banned from ever talking to them again. Isn't drama great? "
I threw together a guide with screenshots. It's here http://bretlindquist.com/download-113-iphone-jailbreak/
I love the Windows Mobile folks who comment on articles like this, and throw tantrums that their phones are so much better than an iPhone, but gets none of the same acclaim. Who cares? Enjoy your smartphone, if it works so well for you. If you're jealous of the oohs and aahs the iPhone gets from the ladies, then buy one for yourself!
But seriously... it's not that big of a deal. It's just a cell phone. Different strokes for different folks, and all that.
Do you think if you convince the world of the better capabilities, customizability and specs of your smartphone that you'll suddenly become cool or something? Give your crusade a rest... your insecurity is showing.
I upgraded to 1.1.3 without any problem except all my programs disappeared and now my phone won't ring. It only vibrates. Tried everything and its not the switch on the site. I had some custom ringtones that I had creaded with SendSong. I think that might have been the problem. I was able to get back some of my programs by deleting them and reinstalling. A lot of them wouldn't work including SendSong. Google maps locator didn't work either, which was the main reason I upgraded.
Anyone have any idea how to fix the ring? I am about to try to go back to 1.1.2.
having the exact same issues. i really am hoping there's a fix for the ring. also the alarm doesn't work! i rely on this to get to work, so if it doesn't work, i'm gonna have to upgrade to the normal firmware! :(
I installed jailbreak 1.1.3 on my ipod touch and bought the software upgrade. Everythings works great except for the mail app, it won't remember my passwords, It authenticates the account and then when i close it and open the mail app and try to recieve mail it will say password not found or something like that. The only email that i can get to work is yahoo. I tryed google both ways, imap, and pop, i also tryed aol, and comcast but they still with authenticate and then will say password missing when going to the inbox. whats should i do. Thanks
I upgraded my iPhone in under 20 minutes without any hassles. Using my T-Mobile sim in my iPhone now.
Here is the method I used:
