I'm sure it can, but it would fly much better if the bottom were concave. For all Apple's aesthetic design considerations, obviously that wasn't one of them.

As usual, if you're looking for distance over price, you're best looking at a non-Apple product; in this case, a boomerang or javelin will do nicely.
